The Met Gala [1] officially returned to New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 2. This year's red carpet dress code was white tie, and its theme was "Gilded Glamour," a nod to the corresponding exhibit "In America: An Anthology of Fashion."
The high-profile event brought out a bevy of stars, including Billie Eilish [2], Lori Harvey [3], Normani, Hillary Clinton [4], Gigi Hadid [5], Sophie Turner, Joe Jonas [6], and hosts Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds [7], and Lin-Manuel Miranda [8]. Fashion designer Tom Ford, Instagram's Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour once again served as honorary chairs, while Vanessa Hudgens [9] and La La Anthony hosted the Met Gala's live stream. Regina King was also a cohost, but she skipped the event [10] likely due to the recent death of her 26-year-old son [11] Ian Alexander Jr.
But there were also several celebrities who attended the Met Gala for the very first time this year. After practicing her walk [12] on the Met steps earlier in the day, Tommy Dorfman made her grand debut [13] at the event in a black rubber dress [14]. Meanwhile, Austin Butler and Priscilla Presley attended their first Met Gala [15] together. Butler is set to play Elvis Presley [16] in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming biopic. Also joining the first-timers club were HoYeon, Phoebe Dynevor [17], Michelle Yeoh, Kieran Culkin, Chloe Kim, Jon Batiste, Maude Apatow, Simone Ashley, and Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian [18].
Ahead, see all the stars who've made their Met Gala debuts this year!
