The Story of How Barack Obama Proposed to Michelle Is So Nerdy, It's Perfect
Michelle and Barack Obama may be the couple of our dreams, but we're still learning new details about their 26-year marriage every day. The former first lady stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Dec. 1 to promote her new memoir, Becoming, and revealed a few lesser-known details about her marriage — including how the 44th president proposed in the first place.
Sure, fans may know that Barack proposed to Michelle over dinner at a Chicago restaurant. "He picks a fight, and so I deliver, because I too am a lawyer and I have my points to be made," Michelle told Stephen during the interview. "And by then, dessert was coming out and the waiter put a platter in front of me with a little box, with a ring on it."
Cue the awwws! Watch the video in full to see exactly how she responded to the surprise, plus his sass-filled rebuttal. Once a lawyer, always a lawyer.
