Kim Kardashian Says She Would Be "Happy Being an Attorney Full Time"

Kim Kardashian is known for breaking the internet with her sexy snaps, but in April 2019, she did so by announcing that she was studying to become a lawyer. At the time, the 42-year-old mogul had already been advocating for criminal justice reform — she notably played a huge role in the release of Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence without parole for a first-time nonviolent drug offense — so for Kardashian, this was a natural next step. "I had to think long and hard about this," Kardashian previously told Vogue. "I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more."

In a follow-up post on Instagram, Kardashian revealed that she had registered with the California State Bar in 2018, and for the next four years, she would need to put in a minimum of 18 hours a week of work and take monthly written and multiple choice tests. The reality-TV star also mentioned that she was prepping for her first-year law exam, aka the baby bar, and on Dec. 13, 2021, Kardashian revealed that she passed. "Looking in the mirror, I am really proud of the woman looking back today in the reflection," she wrote on Instagram. "For anyone who doesn't know my law school journey, know this wasn't easy or handed to me. I failed this exam 3 times in 2 years, but I got back up each time and studied harder and tried again until I did it!!! (I did have COVID on the 3rd try w a 104 fever but I'm not making excuses😉)."

She continued, "In California, the way I'm studying law you need to take 2 bar exams, this was just the first one but with the harder pass rate. I was told by top lawyers that this was a close to impossible journey and harder than the traditional law school route but it was my only option and it feels so so sooooo good to be here and on my way to achieving my goals."

In conjunction with her exams, Kardashian started a four-year apprenticeship as well with a San Francisco law firm, where she's being mentored by human rights attorney Jessica Jackson and attorney Erin Haney. Up next, Kardashian is set to take the bar exam on Feb. 25, she confirmed at the 2023 Time100 Summit on April 26.

If everything goes according to plan and Kardashian passes the exam, she'll be well on her way to becoming a lawyer just like her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr, who, funny enough, Kardashian said would've gotten a "kick out" of it. She recalled, "We talked so much about me going to law school and he always said he would help — give us an allowance, if we stayed in school — and I couldn't do it."

Kardashian continued: "Now that the opportunity came about all these years later, it's so much more meaningful to me . . . everything that I'm learning, I can apply it, and I'm just so grateful for the experience." Kardashian said that her dad previously warned her about becoming a lawyer because of all the work and stress that comes with the job, adding, "But I will say, I did learn my work ethic from my dad, but I learned so much more from my mom than I ever give her credit for."

Of what lies ahead for Kardashian, she said she would be "just as happy being an attorney full time." She added, "The journey just really opened up my eyes to so much. It gets overwhelming because there's so much to be done . . . I would totally spend more time doing that, cameras, no cameras."
