Michael Keaton [2] took home a SAG Award [3] on Sunday night for his work in "Dopesick." The actor scored the win for outstanding performance by a male actor in a miniseries or television movie [4]. The miniseries is based on the impact of opioid addiction [5] and big pharma's contribution to the issue. Keaton, who plays Dr. Samuel Finnix, got emotional during his acceptance speech as he revealed his nephew died from addiction.
"I have a job where I can be part of a production like 'Dopesick' . . . that actually can spawn thought, conversation, actual change — who gets to have that job?" he tearfully said. " . . . Given the subject matter, this [award] is for my nephew Michael and my sister Pam. I lost my nephew Michael to drugs, and it hurts." See his full speech below.
