10 Moments From the Last Decade That Will Make You Say, "Holy Sh*t, That Really Happened"

As we look back on the 2010s, doesn't it all seem like a distant memory now? From shocking celebrity breakups to scandalous feuds, we certainly saw it all these past 10 years. However, not everything was negative; there were some bright spots too. A bunch of celebrities fell in love, and some even got married and expanded their families.

Nowadays, it's hard to think of a time when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West weren't together, but there was moment when she was married to a man by the name of Kris Humphries. Yes, it was only for 72 days, but it still counts. Also, who remembers when we thought Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress was one of the craziest things she'd ever done? Little did we know that was just a preview of what was to come. The same goes for Miley Cyrus, who officially said goodbye to her Disney days when she performed with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs. Ah, the 2010s were definitely a trip. Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

2010: Lady Gaga Showed Up to the MTV VMAs in a Meat Dress

Lady Gaga wearing a dress made out of raw meat was definitely a moment that will go down in VMAs history. Not only because, um, hello, it was made entirely out of real slabs of meat, but because of the powerful message behind it.

"As you know, I am the most judgement-free human being on the Earth. However, it has many interpretations," Gaga said while explaining how the dress was tied to her protest against the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. "If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights pretty soon, we're going to have as [many] rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat."

Even though Gaga's meat dress seemed totally unexpected at the time, it was just the beginning of what was to come. In 2011, she made an egg-straordinary entrance at the Grammys, and two years later, she arrived at the American Music Awards on a human horse (and, um, performed with R. Kelly). Oh, and remember that time she made someone vomit during her performance? Classic Gaga. What surprises will she have in store for us in 2020?

2011: Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Got Married . . . For 72 Days

Before Kim Kardashian got together with Kanye West, remember when she was married to Kris Humphries? It's totally okay if you don't, their marriage lasted a mere 72 days, so it makes sense if you forgot.

Kim began dating the former NBA player in December 2010, and after six months of dating, they got engaged. They then tied the knot in a lavish wedding in Montecito, CA, in August 2011. The over-the-top wedding brought out tons of stars, including Eva Longoria, Julianne Hough, and Lindsay Lohan, and later aired as a two-night special on E!. However, their romance was short-lived as Kim filed for divorce less than three months later. Yep, this was definitely one of the shortest marriages in celebrity history.

Fast-forward to today, and Kim is now married to Kanye and they have four beautiful children together, daughters North and Chicago and sons Saint and Psalm. Kris, on the other hand, has since retired from the NBA and was last linked to model Khloë Terae.

2012: Kristen Stewart Was Caught Cheating on Robert Pattinson With Rupert Sanders

This was the cheating scandal that rocked 2012 and broke Twilight hearts all over the world. While Kristen Stewart was dating Robert Pattinson, the actress was caught having an affair with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. As a result, Rob ended up moving out of their shared home and they split shortly after.

Even though it's been seven years since the scandal, we're still talking about it today. Most recently, Kristen spoke about the affair on Howard Stern's SiriusXM show. "I did not f*ck him. This is like the most candid interview. No, I didn't f*ck him," she stated. "That was a really hard period of my life. I was really young. I didn't really know how to deal with that. I made some mistakes. And honestly, it's no one's business. And people get over sh*t like that, you know what I mean? It's really not a big deal."

2013: Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke Gave This Scandalous Performance at the MTV VMAs

The twerk seen around the globe. At the MTV VMAs, Miley Cyrus teamed up with Robin Thicke for a performance that left people talking (and maybe feeling a little dirty?). As Miley emerged from a giant teddy bear, she stripped off some of her clothes and began dancing on Robin. It was Miley's official departure from her Disney days and the beginning of her Bangerz era.

Miley continued her racy new image when she released her fourth studio album, Bangerz, and went completely nude in her "Wrecking Ball" music video. "I want to be memorable," she told the Daily Mail at the time. "That's what my fans want too. Everyone's talking about me, waiting to see what I'm doing next. And, yeah, I like things to be bright and colorful and fun, but then I make 'Wrecking Ball,' which is darker and grey. And then I'll maybe go back to running around being crazy. I want to keep people guessing."

After a year of touring, Miley continued to reinvent herself and she even hosted the VMAs in 2015, where she got called out by Nicki Minaj and dropped her free Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz album. She also rekindled her romance with Liam Hemsworth, and by 2016, they were engaged.

In 2017, Miley switched up her image again and released her Younger Now album. "I wanted to be more straightforward," she told NME about the album. "I did it in a less aggressive way where it was subliminally allowing all audiences to be a part of it and enjoy it. From the outside, Dead Petz wasn't a record for everyone."

Miley ended up tying the knot with Liam in December 2018, but they split seven months later. Miley then briefly moved on with Kaitlynn Carter and is now dating Cody Simpson. As far as her music goes, she is currently gearing up for the release of her She Is Miley Cyrus album.

2014: The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Was Everywhere

From your friends to world-famous celebrities, it seemed like almost everyone was doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The point of the entire thing was to raise awareness and money for the ALS Association to find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The way it worked was simple: people nominated others to pour a bucket of ice over their head and share the video proof on social media. If they didn't follow through, they were encouraged to donate to the ALS Assocation.

The campaign, of course, went viral and inspired several other challenges, like the Plant a Tree For Groot Challenge. Watching people dump buckets of cold water over themselves was certainly entertaining, and even though it seemed silly, it still raised a whopping $115 million in donations.

2015: Taylor Swift Brought Out Almost Every Celebrity on Her 1989 Tour

We don't think we've ever seen a star bring out as many special guests on their tour as Taylor Swift did for her 1989 one. Taylor had over 60 guests (no, that's not a typo) join her on stage, including pals Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Ellen DeGeneres, and Charli XCX, as well as others that had us scratching our heads like Matt LeBlanc, Chris Rock, Joan Baez, Julia Roberts, Serena Williams, and the US Women's Soccer Team.

In 2018, Taylor hit the road again for her Reputation stadium tour. Even though she didn't have as many guests this time around, the tour grossed $266.1 million and sold over 2 million tickets domestically, making it the highest-grossing US tour. Not only that, but the tour was turned into a concert film for Netflix. Up next is Taylor's Lover tour, which kicks off in 2020.

2016: Beyoncé Turned Lemons Into Lemonade

Ah, the year of Beyoncé's Lemonade. When Beyoncé blessed us with the visual album on HBO, not only was the world of music forever changed, but as fans analyzed the lyrics — specifically, "Becky with the good hair" — many couldn't help wonder if JAY-Z cheated on Beyoncé?

After plenty of digging, it appeared that JAY-Z had been unfaithful to Beyoncé, and the drama was traced all the way back to the 2014 Met Gala. You know, when Solange attacked JAY-Z in that elevator? However, Becky's identity still remained a mystery. That is, until Rachel Roy inserted herself into the narrative when she Instagrammed a photo with the caption, "Good hair don't care." It's not every day that someone uses "good" with that phrase, so the Beyhive immediately began theorizing that Rachel was Becky. The fashion designer quickly denied the reports in a Twitter statement, writing, "I respect love, marriages, families, and strength."

Rachel has since remained adamant that she didn't have an affair with the rapper. Meanwhile, JAY-Z confirmed that he cheated and apologized to Beyoncé on his 4:44 album, though Becky's identity still hasn't been confirmed. Beyoncé and JAY-Z are now parents to three children, daughter Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir.

2017: There Was a Minor Mix-Up at the Oscars

Who remembers when La La Land won best picture at the Oscars? Oops, I mean, Moonlight. Well, that's exactly what happened at the 89th Academy Awards. Faye Dunaway announced the wrong winner during the ceremony. The flub was perhaps one of the most awkward moments in Oscars history, and sent shock waves on stage and in the audience. Emma Stone, who was joined by the rest of the La La Land cast, looked so confused as show producers rushed to the stage and tried to correct the mistake as quickly as possible. We're cringing all over again just thinking about it.

The following year, the Academy avoided another #Envelopegate by changing the envelope procedures and having a third balloting partner sit with Oscar producers in the show's control room. The two partners who worked on the 2017 were also replaced and the new procedure assured that both the celebrity presenter and stage manager were given the correct envelope for each category ahead of time.

2018: Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Got Engaged

Fans everywhere were shocked when Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson got engaged after just a few weeks of dating. It was a whirlwind five-month romance that included the couple getting matching hand tattoos and getting an apartment together in NYC. During their relationship, the couple seemed almost inseparable and Ariana even wrote a song for her beau titled "Pete Davidson" on her Sweetener album.

However, their relationship eventually came to an end in October when Ariana broke things off because she reportedly realized "it was way too much too soon." Still, that didn't keep her from including a special message for Pete in her "Thank U, Next" music video. As Ariana flipped through her Mean Girls-inspired burn book in the video, she landed on a page dedicated to Pete that read: "I love u always," "Sry I dipped." She also included a reference to his BDE (Big D*ck Energy), writing, "HUUUUGE."

Following their split, Pete dated Kate Beckinsale and Margaret Qualley. He is now romancing Kaia Gerber, while Ariana was last linked to Social House's Mikey Foster.

2019: Tristan Thompson Cheated on Khloé Kardashian With Kylie Jenner's BFF Jordyn Woods

OK, allegedly. Tristan Thompson and Jordyn Woods reportedly made out a party, which led to the NBA player's split from Khloé Kardashian. Not only was this not the first time that Khloé dealt with Tristan's infidelity, but the reality TV star had given birth to their daughter True less than a year before.

Both Tristan and Jordyn publicly denied the allegations, and Jordyn even went on Jada Pinkett Smith's Red Table Talk to clear the air. Still, Khloé lashed out at Jordyn in a series of tweets, claiming she was "the reason my family broke up." She later retracted her claim in another batch of tweets and said she loved and treated Jordyn like a sister. The Kardashian-Jenners, including Kylie, eventually severed all ties with Jordyn.

Meanwhile, Tristan appeared to move on and began dating again. He and Khloé are now committed to coparenting True.

Whew! If this past decade has taught us anything, it's to always expect the unexpected when it comes to celebrities.
