Who's in Meghan Markle's Inner Circle? See Her Powerful Squad of BFFs

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's long-awaited Netflix docuseries, "Harry & Meghan," debuted its final episodes on Dec. 15. The documentary event features not only interviews with the titular couple but also never-before-seen photos and footage of their life together, starting from when they first dated. The crew also spoke to some of their loved ones, including Markle's mother, Doria Ragland; her niece, Ashleigh Hale; and many of her friends who've stood by her side for years. Some of the friends featured include her "Suits" costar Abigail Spencer and her college friend Lindsay Jill Roth.

Markle, who worked in Hollywood for years before she met Harry, cultivated her own group of successful friends long before she met her future husband in 2016. That includes Priyanka Chopra, tennis superstar Serena Williams, and many of her "Suits" cast mates. She also forged a bond with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, whose husband is now the prime minister of Canada. And after she and Harry became an item, she became very close to George and Amal Clooney, as well as Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry.

Tyler Perry

Perry became acquainted with the Sussexes after first connecting with Markle around May 2018, when he sent her a letter before her and Harry's wedding. In "Harry & Meghan," Perry shared that he reached out because of reports he saw about Markle's father, Thomas, regarding his staged photos. "I found it to be hurtful if he were my father," he said. "And I couldn't even imagine this woman finding the man that she loved, the man of her dreams . . . and have your father do some horrible things."

Following Harry and Markle's January 2020 royal exit, Perry offered to let them stay in one of his LA homes since they were no longer under the protection of the British monarchy. From there, the trio formed a close friendship, and Markle and Harry even named the Hollywood producer the godfather of their daughter, Lilibet, born on June 4, 2021.

Markus Anderson

Markus Anderson has reportedly been one of Markle's friends for a long time. The Ontario-born Soho House Group consultant started out as a waiter at the boho-chic members club in London before working his way up to global membership director and then consultant. He met Markle when he moved to Toronto in 2012 to set up a branch of the club there, once saying of his role, "When Soho House decides to open in a new city, I'm one of the first people sent out to get to know the city, the creatives that live there, and determine who we want to involve in the house."

Markle and Anderson have traveled the world together and often act as each other's dates for media events and weddings; she even referred to him as her dogs' "uncle." Anderson was in the VIP box with Markle and Harry at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in 2017. Markle and Markus were spotted grabbing dinner together during her visit to NYC in February 2019. In May 2022, Anderson attended a polo match with Markle, where they watched Harry play.

Spencer and Markle met on the set of "Suits" and quickly became close; they even have the exact same birthday: Aug. 4, 1981. Spencer was one of the many celebrity guests at Markle and Harry's wedding and attended Markle's baby shower in February 2019. Spencer appears in "Harry & Meghan." In the footage, she reflects on when Markle first told her she and Harry were in love. "I mean, I could just feel everything in her body vibrating," she said. "I was screaming because I could tell it was different. . . . It was very clear . . . that they were going to go to the ends of the earth to be together."

Lindsay Jill Roth

Markle has often referred to TV producer Lindsay Jill Roth as her "best friend." The pair met when they were both studying at Northwestern University, and their friendship was sparked when they took the same Toni Morrison literature class in their freshman year. Roth later moved to New York, but she revealed in a 2017 interview with People, "We're the kind of friends who can be 3,000 miles away and still be talking about or thinking the same thing, and even texting each other the same thing at the same time miles away."

Roth appears in the docuseries and wrote on Instagram to mark the premiere, "I often get asked what Meg and H are like. Here's your chance to hear their story from them! Watch 'Harry & Meghan' on @netflix." In the doc, Roth explains that before meeting Harry, Markle was intent on having a fun, explorative summer where she got to "be free." Once she met Harry, Roth recalls, Markle was "giddy."

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau is probably most famous as the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but she's also a close friend of Markle's. On a 2022 episode of her "Archetypes" podcast, Markle reveals she and Sophie have been friends for about seven years and met at the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards. During the same episode, on which Sophie was a guest, the pair revealed they threw a pool party at Markle's house in Montecito over the summer where they "giggled like schoolgirls."

Heather Dorak

One member of Markle's LA friends group from before her marriage is the owner of Pilates Platinum, Heather Dorak, a former dancer who set up her first pilates studio just over 10 years ago. The pair have reportedly been friends since 2006 and apparently met at the studio. Dorak now owns a chain of pilates studios. She was spotted with Markle during 4th of July 2022, so it seems they're still pretty close.

Another of Markle's friends is fashion designer Misha Nonoo. She and Markle met through mutual friends, and since then, they have traveled the world together, taking in Ibiza and Madrid last year. Misha was born in Bahrain, raised in London, and educated in Paris, and she started her business five years ago. Her designs are favored by Pippa Middleton, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Gwyneth Paltrow, and Meghan often has often worn her creations.

Markle and Chopra Jonas met in 2016 at the Elle Women in Television Dinner and quickly became friends. While Chopra Jonas attended the royal wedding in 2018, Markle wasn't able to attend her friend's nuptials to Nick Jonas a few months later thanks in part to Markle's pregnancy at the time. Rumors flew that the pair had fallen out, but in 2021 Chopra Jonas posted a sweet birthday message in honor of her friend on Instagram.

Serena Williams

Markle and Williams first met in 2010 at the Super Bowl. They met again in 2014 and quickly became friends. Markle wrote on her now-defunct blog, The Tig, "We are both the same age, have a penchant for hot sauces, and adore fashion, but what connects us more than those things is perhaps our belief in exceeding expectations — our endless ambition."

Markle has been spotted courtside for Serena's matches at the US Open and Wimbledon and was also on hand to support her friend when she launched her clothing line at New York Fashion Week in 2017, while Serena frequently contributed to Markle's lifestyle site, The Tig. Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, attended Markle and Harry's wedding.

Williams appeared on the first episode of Markle's "Archetypes" podcast, where they talked about motherhood, ambition, and their friendship. Markle asked Williams why she agreed to do the podcast, and the tennis legend responded, "I was gonna say because I love you and I believe in you! We've been friends for so long. I'm super loyal, to a fault, you know that."

Patrick J. Adams

Patrick J. Adams was Markle's costar on "Suits," and in her last episode, their characters get married and move to Seattle. Like many of his "Suits" castmates, Adams attended Markle's wedding. In the years since Markle married Harry, Adams has vocally defended her from detractors on social media. "She fell in love, moved to a new country, became a household name across the entire globe, and began the difficult work of trying to find her place in a family dynamic that can at best be described as complicated and at worst, seemingly archaic, and toxic," he wrote in since-deleted tweets in 2021. "It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world, but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her."
