It's really despicable when non-writer actors do this for their own publicity. 'Nuf said.

i dont understand why actors have to hide their support for the WGA because they are celebs. alot of these people know each other and their public support is much needed and wanted by the writers. at this point their morale may be getting lower, so a pat on the back by an actor or two is not necessarily a bad thing. and if the producers think they are going to lose their talent over this, it may push them back to the table. jillness-its not just a raise in dvd profits they want, they also want some compensation for digital downloads, which they get none of!

"And how do you feel about celebrities speaking on behalf of other various causes? I bet those St. Jude commercials offend you? Kidding, kidding..." I know you're kidding, but that has nothing to do with my comment you quoted. *lol*

greggie i agree, and also it just looks the actors are looking for photo ops more than anything. On E! a week ago they were interviewing Eva Longoria and she was  - corcodile tears I tell you ! (call me a cynic!)

It's really good to see the actors showing their support for the writers who play a big part in making them great. Just about every Emmy and Oscar winner in history has gushed about how the writers for their show or movie made the success of show or movie and teh actor's performance. It's about time they were compensated accordingly.

It's like any other cause. The media pays more attention to low cost housing construction in New Orleans when Brad Pitt shows up and countless other issues when Martin Sheen is there. Studios have been playing hard ball with laying off people during the strike. David Letterman just volunteered to pay the salary for all his staff until the end of the year if the strike goes on that long, to make sure they don't lose their jobs.

"I'm also having a really hard time with the WGA expecting everyone to shut down on their behalf." I dont' see it as WGA expecting everyone to shut down, in my eyes it is the producers who are forcing this situation. They are getting MASSIVE amounts of money from selling and streaming shows online, and they aren't sharing. Right now they are focusing on the fact that they aren't sharing with writers, but they aren't sharing with the directors or the actors, either. As we have all seen from movies and tv...the writing is so important! No matter how big of stars you get in a movie or tv, if the writing is lame it won't be as enjoyable to watch. If you want to see good entertainment, support WGA!

Well I actually wasn't responding to that comment. I was talking about: "I'm also having a really hard time with the WGA expecting everyone to shut down on their behalf." And how do you feel about celebrities speaking on behalf of other various causes? I bet those St. Jude commercials offend you? Kidding, kidding... But seriously, I think it's great that the actors are putting their faces on this. If it helps, then why not? It's all about informing the public, and let's face it: the public loves them some celebrities. We PopSugar readers understand this addiction!

Well I can say that I for one paid a lot more attention when it wasn't about celebrities and their support. Having it become all about which celebrities are appearing where has made me lose a lot of interest in worrying about whether I do the right thing to support the strike. I mean, the chances of me watching any new programming or online streaming is slim anyway, so it doesn't matter. But still.

" It should be covered regardless." True...but ultimately I don't think that people in general would pay as much attention if unrecognisable people are representing the fight. I think it is good for the cause to put a familiar face on things.

"Would news agency post pictures of writers walking if no one recognised their faces?" This is my point. They SHOULD. It shouldn't take actors coming out to make the point heard. It should be covered regardless. And the working on movies comment was a joke, bugness. I don't seriously think they should be ignoring it and doing other work.
Jillness Jillness 9 years
"God, these people have a lot of free time on their hands..." Yes, because they are all out of work. "They should all use this time to make movies." No one would be there to help with the re-writes that happen daily on set. No one is there to write the scripts. This is going to screw up production for all of 2008 (TV and film). The new TV shows that are supposed to be cast and film in early 2008 (to air in the fall), won't be airing until 2009 most likely.

ha, I totally didn't see your comment when I was posting mine, Jillness! I fully agree about them being screwed in that event!

Greggie, the SAG has their strike coming up in June. All about the scratching of backs, I think. If the actors don't support the writers now, then what are the writers going to do when its the SAG's turn?
Jillness Jillness 9 years
Greggie, The actors bring attention the writer's cause. Would news agency post pictures of writers walking if no one recognised their faces? Also, the DGA is going to have to face the exact same issues in their upcoming negotiations this spring, and SAG is going to face them in June. If the Writer's dont get what they want, then DGA and SAG will be screwed. Yesterday was SAG's official day of support, as well. I support the writers 100%. They work hard, and shouldn't have the revenue earned from their product stolen by massive media conglomerates. Right now they are making 4 CENTS from $20 dvds. All they are asking is for a raise to 8 CENTS per dvd. It is sad how greedy the producers are.
