All the American Horror Story Season 6 Teasers, and What They're Referencing

If you've been keeping up with the seemingly endless stream of American Horror Story season six teasers, chances are you're just as confused as we are. We're so perplexed by the teasers — and the fact that only one is real — that we've been trying to dissect them in any way we can. Most notably, we parsed out a "Cinema" theme theory, but other than that, we don't have much. To keep the investigation going, we're going through every clip we've seen so far and figuring out which major horror film it relates to — since, after all, that seems to be the running gag.

"Pitch a Fit" — Crazies

This exact shot is taken directly from Crazies, a movie that centers around a small town that falls victim to a peculiar virus. Those infected become cold, depraved, psychotic, violent killers. In one scene, one man who has fallen ill drags a pitchfork along the floor and plunges it right into the chest of a woman he's holding captive.

"Bathing Beauty" — The Grudge

Not only does this teaser have the same greenish tinge of The Grudge movies, but you'll remember how the horror film has so much disturbing hair imagery. The creature herself has long, black, stringy hair. Plus, remember that shower scene, where you can see the hand coming through the hair on the back of her head?!

"Baby Face" — Annabelle

A creepy haunted doll that seems like it wants to kill you? I mean, Annabelle is just the tip of the iceberg. Let's not forget the Child's Play franchise, or that creepy clown doll from Poltergeist.

"The Lesson" — Children of the Corn

Come on, this one's a no-brainer. The children are literally in the corn.

"Backtrack" — The Mummy

If you've seen the 21st century versions of The Mummy you'll know exactly where we're going with this: scarabs. In the film, these terrifying beetles crawl into your skin and eat you alive from the inside.

"Sunset Stroll" — The Hills Have Eyes

There are a lot of elements of this teaser that seem to allude to The Hills Have Eyes. Mostly, the tease's desolate landscape aligns well with the desert scenes from the film. The fact that the three individuals seem to be some sort of menacing family alludes to the deformed unit in The Hills Have Eyes as well.

"The Shadow" — Nosferatu

As we previously discussed, this new, shadowy teaser looks an awful lot like a silhouetted scene from Nosferatu. The shadows themselves seem to match as well!

"Blink" — A Nightmare on Elm Street

This one's a bit of a stretch, but you'll know where we're going if you've seen A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. In the film, one of the characters begins to transform into Freddie, resulting in one chilling scene that shows Freddy's eye in the back of his throat.

"Wind Chime" — Darkness Falls

I mean, the movie is about the Tooth Fairy, so it's an obvious connection. That said, there are a lot of horrifying teeth scenes in horror movie history. There's a whole scary film called The Dentist, about a demented dental technician. In Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, a madman knocks out a woman's teeth with a chisel and a hammer. In The Fly, the main character eventually loses his teeth as he transforms into an insect.

"What's Cooking?" — Texas Chainsaw Massacre

It's not hard to see the correlation here: there's a chainsaw revving in the background of this teaser. But there's more to it: the rural house in the middle of nowhere in the plains is also noteworthy.

"Self Preservation" — The Invisible Man

This person is wrapped in bandages, and we can't help but think of the classic horror character. Let's not even discuss the blood-curdling end-of-teaser scream it releases, OK?

"Descent" — The People Under the Stairs

This is another teaser where multiple movies come into play. We can't omit The People Under the Stairs, especially given the fact that, well, there are people under these stairs. We're also getting Silence of the Lamb vibes, given the whole escaping hostage thing.

"Bite Sized" — Deadly Blessing

This one's a bit tough to nail down, but there's a 1981 horror film starring Sharon Stone called Deadly Blessing. During one nightmare sequence, a spider falls into her open mouth.

"Milli Crossing" — The Ring

OK, OK, OK, this is another stretch. But, we're going to skip right over The Human Centipede because it's not worth mentioning. And besides, this is a millipede. Let's take it over to a horror classic: The Ring. If you rewatch the cursed video tape from the film, you'll see that one of these bugs is featured therein.

"Harvest" — The Blair Witch Project

Some might say this is another reference to Children of the Corn, but those weird stick men are quite reminiscent of the bundles left by the Blair Witch, aren't they?

"Post Op" — Hostel

Hmm, a deranged doctor (or civilian) subjecting someone to horrifying bodily trauma in a dank, dark basement? Yes, sounds like Hostel to me.

"Blind Date" — Creature From the Black Lagoon

Look, they're in a body of water, and that creature is nearly a dead ringer for the swamp thing from the horror classic. Plus, we're getting all kinds of Old Hollywood vibes from the filming style.

"The Mist" — The Mist

If the title of the teaser wasn't enough, there are a few other things to note. Naturally, you can spot the foggy nature of the clip from the start, but there's something about the creature that supports this too. Of course, we don't get a good look at the monsters in The Mist, but we get the feeling this guy would fit right in.

"Camp Sight" — Close Encounters of the Third Kind

This one's alien abduction, plain and simple. You could also loop in The Fourth Kind, which is still admittedly on the new side but handles the same topic.
