Apocalypto Conquers All

I was truly shocked to see Mel Gibson's Apocalypto come in number one at the box office this weekend, finally unseating Happy Feet. There had been comparatively little buzz about the movie besides the concern over its ruthless violence, and it also got some pretty bad reviews. But I guess a little controversy does a movie good: Apocalypto racked up $14.1 million on its opening weekend, just beating out The Holiday, which took in $13.5 million.

Still, I can't imagine being able to watch this movie without being preoccupied by all of the sordid Mel Gibson news lately, which is why I appreciate this spoof on the Apocalypto trailer that aired on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend.
