The Avengers Breaks Record For Biggest Opening Weekend of All Time

The Avengers Demolishes Box Office Records

Joss Whedon's superhero epic The Avengers smashed into the top spot at the box office with $200.3 million, breaking the record for biggest opening weekend of all time. The hotly anticipated action flick took down the previous record set last year by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 by over $40 million. Reigning champ Think Like a Man took a distant, distant second place with $8 million, followed by The Hunger Games with $5.7 million. Fourth and fifth place belonged to The Lucky One and The Pirates! Band of Misfits, with $5.5 million and $5.4 million, respectively.
