Barry Jenkins gave a truly moving speech when he accepted best adapted screenplay alongside Tarell Alvin McCraney at the Oscars. Aside from thanking his friends, family, and crew, the Moonlight director and writer took a moment to talk about the importance of inclusivity. "All you people out there who feel like there is no mirror for you . . . we will not forget you," he told the camera. Though he did (eventually) get to accept the award for best picture [4], this speech is the one we'll remember the most. At least he got more time in the press room to express his gratitude [5]!
