Best Books of 2011

What's the Best Book You've Read This Year So Far?

I've been lucky enough to get my hands on so many great reads this year. It was just a few months ago that I devoured The Hunger Games series, one of the most addictive book series I've ever come across. But if I had to name the best book I've read this year, it would have to be A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, for its cast of of flawed but relatable characters and use of music as a backdrop. Has anyone else been struck by something you've read this year? Tell me what has been the best book you've read in 2011 so far.

I loved Divergent by Veronica Roth and Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Prince. I have a serious soft spot for young adult fiction. I really loved Hunger Games as well, but I read that about 40 books ago.

Some good books to check out in these posts. I think I'll read The Room, Becky. Sounds very interesting.

The Book Thief followed closely by Little Bee. Both definitely worth a read.

I heard that Ready Player One is the book of the decade.

I have to agree with Becky and Smart Blonde! "Room" was so haunting and "Just Kids" is a true work of art. While it might not qualify as a book, I also discovered the literary journal Electric Literature this year and am obsessed. Excellent short stories monthly.

I will second "the passage" by Justin Cronin. Its a vampire/post apocalyptic book, which is actually the first in a series. Its no twilight or YA nonsense, its pure adult cerebral amazement.

The Paris Wife by Paula McClain. I picked it up thinking it'd be a mindless read, but in fact, it was actually quite moving. I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. For those that don't know, it's a fictional novel about a young Ernest Hemingway and his first wife, Hadley, during their years together in Paris.

JUST KIDS by Patti Smith, hands down. Not sure how I feel about the movie, but the book changed my life.

I'm LOVING The Hunger Games. I'm halfway through book 2 and I can't wait to get to 3 and see how the story wraps up. Highly recommend it!
