Man of Steel was supposed to be the Dark Knight-like take on Superman, but producer Christopher Nolan only seemed to lend his brooding tone to the Zack Snyder-directed film. The movie disappointed by being overly long and boring (particularly the action scenes and long-winded Kryptonian backstories), but one element saves the film from being a complete waste of two hours: Henry Cavill. The British-born star fills out the suit, smiles his way into our hearts — and, at least for the sequel, he gives us what the "S" stands for back in Krypton: hope.
