Sundance [1] was full of great films this year, but only one took home the US grand jury prize and the audience award for a US dramatic film: The Birth of a Nation. Nate Parker (Beyond the Lights) directed, wrote, and stars in the film, which is set in antebellum Virginia. It's the true story of Nat Turner, a preacher who led an infamous slave rebellion in 1831. Armie Hammer, Gabrielle Union [2], Jackie Earle Haley, and Aja Naomi King are all costarring in the film, which Fox Searchlight acquired for a record $17.5 million at the festival. It's opening in limited release on Oct. 7, but it may also get a wide release. Stay tuned, and find out which Sundance movies you'll be able to catch on Netflix [3].
