There are a lot of new Fall shows [1] this season, and so far, only a handful have us hooked [2]. That's not to say that there won't be shows that break out, but one thing is sure about the following group of TV series: everyone is going to be talking about these. For better or worse, get ready to be hearing a lot about these new shows around the water cooler.
The Muppets
The Muppets is on this list because not only does everyone know who the Muppets are, the show is really funny. It's the kind of show that will appeal to so many people, they're all going to be talking about how great it is.
Supergirl
Supergirl's pilot is a bit uneven and leaves you wondering if what you just saw was cheesy or kind of fun. Either way, it needs a little time to grow to find out if Melissa Benoist is TV's answer to a female superhero. Still, this is Supergirl we're talking about, and with the built-in comics fan base, a lot of people will be checking it out.
Limitless
Any TV show based on a semirecent movie is going to have more curiosity about it than other shows, and that's not all Limitless has going for it. What it really has is Bradley Cooper [3], who starred in the original movie, and shows up on the show to reprise his role in the pilot (plus more, it sounds like [4]).
Scream Queens
Ryan Murphy has never launched a show that's dull or subtle, and Scream Queens, aka American Horror Story [5]-lite, is no different. The first couple of episodes are campy fun, but there is also some dreadful dialogue and cringe-worthy scenes. It'll have buzz for both good and bad reasons.
Heroes Reborn
Heroes has been resurrected in the NBC event series this Fall, and though the network has not made its premiere available for critics to screen, viewers don't know what to expect — a result of the original series being so uneven in its run.
Minority Report
Like Limitless, Minority Report is based on a semirecent movie, and it's not just the compelling sci-fi premise that will get peoples' attention. It also stars Wilmer Valderrama [6] in one of his first series in a long time.
Truth Be Told
The original title of this series was People Are Talking — and they will be, but for all the wrong reasons. You'll want to like it because it's Mark-Paul Gosselaar, after all, but the trying-too-hard comedy and faux edginess will just make you roll your eyes.
