Carey Mulligan to Star in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 2010-04-26 10:35:25

Carey Mulligan Could Be the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Carey Mulligan has been keeping her options open in choosing her first post-Oscar nomination project, but it sounds like she's circling her next endeavor. Apparently the up-and-coming actress is close to landing the coveted title role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She's director David Fincher's favorite contender and would star in all three parts of the trilogy.

Mulligan has admitted to being "obsessed with the books," so it's no surprise that she's had her heart set on the role of Lisbeth Salander, who is described as a "biker chick computer hacker who helps an out-of-luck journalist investigate a long-missing woman." The Swedish version of the best-selling book was recently released overseas, and Kristen Stewart is among the other actresses whose names have been thrown into the ring.

A major movie franchise would be a nice change of pace for Mulligan, who's shined so far in smaller films like An Education and The Greatest. Personally, I'm just happy to see her lining up more roles. Fans of the book — do you think Mulligan is a good choice?

is it really that hard for english-speakers to read subtitles?? I watch movies in english and spanish with subtitles all the time... it just takes some practice:) And the swedish films are really good, why remake them?

Why a remake of a fairly recent film?

I saw the Swedish version and it was great, even with subtitles. I enjoyed Carey in An Education but I think she is too sweet to play Salandar but she is a better choice than Kristen.

I saw the Swedish version and it was pretty good, but, I'll admit, I really don't care for foreign films. I have a medical issue, so reading the subtitles for an entire movie really wears out my eyes, to the point where it's painful to read the subtitles by the end of the film. And, dubbing just looks weird. I saw it dubbed and it was kind of hard to get in to, but still good.

I really like her, but I think that people should just watch the Swedish version. I'm Danish and the movies are currently being shown on Danish and Swedish television. The actress who plays Lisbeth Salander does a fantastic job. Watch it with subtitles I get the real Swedish feeling.

Ugh, the arrogance; must the Americans remake everything?

Really? I don't like Kristen Stewart either, but Carey Mulligan would be an awful choice. She's all lollipops and flowers and looks like she's about 13. Definitely not "biker chick computer hacker" material.

I was just totally confused by this story because I JUST watched the trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Why must they Americanize every movie by remaking it?! And just three years apart? It's ridiculous.

I just saw the Swedish version last week. I'd be interested to see the American film. I like Carey; I'm sure she'll be great in it!

Kristen Stewart bugs me. I think anyone would be better than her but Carrie would be ideal

I think Carrie would be great for the role in the trilogy. She's a much better choice than Kristen Stewart.
