It goes without saying that DC Comics has some pretty iconic characters. While Batman and Superman are notable figures within pop culture, there are also a few unsung heroes within the bunch. With all the hype surrounding Supergirl [1] and Suicide Squad [2] this year, it seems like the perfect opportunity to channel one of these characters for Halloween [3]. Check out the best of the best, and the worst of the worst, here!
Superman
- What to wear: Superman has perhaps the most iconic costume of the group, but the latest iteration of his look is much more modern. You could modify some of the already-existing Superman costumes out there, or build your own with muted spandex and an epic cape.
- How to act: Since Superman is from another planet, he lacks the social graces of most humans. A bit distant, but brave.
Batman
- What to wear: You can build your own Batman costume or buy a premade one and spruce it up. The most important components are a very long and dramatic cape and a badass bat helmet.
- How to act: Dark and mysterious. You're in charge, and you're the nightmare that lurks in the shadows. Just creep around people like a crazy person all night and you'll be good.
Aquaman
- What to wear: First of all, you need to find a way to get that godly mane and beard. If you haven't grown one yourself, it's time to get hunting. Pair the look with lots of silver armor, and don't forget your trident.
- How to act: Angry and brooding. Aquaman is not here to have fun or mess around. Don't be afraid to enter nearby pools, bathtubs, and other miscellaneous bodies of water.
Wonder Woman
- What to wear: You know the classic Wonder Woman look, but the modernized version is a bit darker. Get your hands on a shield, a lasso, and some arm cuffs. As for the armor, it's very reminiscent of a gladiator, so if you don't want to settle for any old premade costume, collect the pieces yourself.
- How to act: Like a total badass. This woman doesn't take sh*t from anyone.
Cyborg
- What to wear: Much like the other members of the Justice League, you have to get that armor together. Since Cyborg is a bit more robotic, the more mechanical you are, the better. And if you can find a way to get that glowing eye, more power to you.
- How to act: Like a member of the team who's ready to kick ass, take names, and have a good time doing it.
Amanda Waller
- What to wear: A pair of black slacks, a white tank top, a red blazer, and pearl accessories.
- How to act: It isn't enough to just act like you're the baddest boss in town, you need to be the baddest boss in town.
Harley Quinn
- What to wear: When it comes to Harley Quinn's getup [7], the devil is in the details. You'll need some blue and red shorts, a baseball tee that reads "Daddy's Lil Monster," and a pair of black and white heeled sneakers. As for accessories, grab a pair of fishnet tights, a studded black belt, and a blue and pink wig [8]. Don't forget your trusty baseball bat!
- How to act: On the verge of insanity. Constantly talk to strangers about your "Puddin'."
Enchantress
- What to wear: Think Britney Spears [9]'s "I'm a Slave 4 U [10]," only much darker. You'll also need a long black wig and a crescent-shaped headband.
- How to act: Like you're being possessed by an ancient witch.
Rick Flag
- What to wear: A military uniform with fingerless black gloves and facial hair.
- How to act: You're just a regular guy who got mixed up with the wrong crowd.
Katana
- What to wear: Aside from your sword, you should don black leggings, a white tank top, a black leather jacket, and black combat boots. You will also need a white mask and a red sash to tie around your waist and shoulders.
- How to act: Incredibly stealthy with a hint of badass. Have a conversation with your sword every once in a while.
Slipknot
- What to wear: Other than braiding your hair, you should be dressed in black from head to toe and have some hiking gear tied around your chest.
- How to act: March to the beat of your own drum, and don't take orders from anyone.
El Diablo
- What to wear: A white tank, black jeans, and tons of fake tattoos, specifically one that resembles a skeleton on your face.
- How to act: Like a quiet man with a fiery spirit.
Boomerang
- What to wear: You'll need a blue track jacket that reads "Captain," a pair of jeans, a gray overcoat, and black combat boots with duct tape holding them together. If you're wanting to go over the top with your costume, you should also consider getting a gold chain and a matching cap for your front tooth.
- How to act: Aside from faking an Australian accent, you should be on edge about everything. Be ready to snap back at any moment just like your weapon of choice.
Deadshot
- What to wear: Deadshot is basically DC Comics' version of Deadpool. Aside from your shooting gear, you'll need a red Under Armour shirt, black pants, and matching boots. You should also consider getting a bald cap.
- How to act: You're one sharp shooter with a strong hatred for anything Batman-related.
Killer Croc
- What to wear: Aside from covering your hands and face in scales, you'll also need a brown hoodie and black leather jacket paired with some casual black slacks. Go the extra mile by wearing fake sharp teeth.
- How to act: Like a crocodile with killer tendencies. Isn't that obvious? You're a real animal.
The Joker
- What to wear: Pulling from the Joker's signature colors, you're going to need a purple trench coat and black pants. You should also draw some creative tattoos on your body to offset your green hair and red lipstick [11]. Don't forget to channel Jared Leto [12]'s version of the character by wearing a full grill [13].
- How to act: Mentally insane. Better start perfecting your maniacal laugh now.
Mr. Freeze
- What to wear: Aside from wearing a bald cap, you should definitely paint your face and hands silver. Accent your frosty hue with a light blue robe.
- How to act: Be cold toward everyone you meet, both figuratively and literally.
Bane
- What to wear: Gray cargo pants, black combat boots, and a military-style vest. Don't forget Bane's signature mask.
- How to act: Like a total brute. Talk in a breathy voice.
Poison Ivy
- What to wear: A green spandex suit, a bright red wig, and fake leaves all over your body.
- How to act: Incredibly seductive. Try to enchant those around you with your mind-controlling pheromones.
Batgirl
- What to wear: A black suit, a cape, yellow gloves and boots, and a matching belt. You should also grab a black mask with pointy ears.
- How to act: Don't take any nonsense.
Sugar
- What to wear: White lingerie, knee-high stockings, and a fluffy, white jacket.
- How to act: Super sweet. Get on people's good sides.
Riddler
- What to wear: If you're wanting to channel Jim Carrey [14]'s Riddler, we suggest spraying your hair red, putting a thin green mask over your eyes, and wearing a green suit with question marks all over. Don't forget your cane shaped like a question mark.
- How to act: Quite puzzling. Confuse people by talking in riddles.
Robin
- What to wear: You'll need green pants, a green shirt, a red vest, and a yellow cape and belt. Hide your identity with a green mask.
- How to act: A little naive, but you always have your best friend's back.
Spice
- What to wear: Black lingerie, fishnet stockings, black gloves, and a flowing black wig.
- How to act: A little saucy. Bring out people's dark sides.
Two-Face
- What to wear: A suit that is party on the right and sophisticated on the left. You should also get some makeup to make half of your face look like it was melted off.
- How to act: Like you have split personalities. Never reveal your true self.
Penguin
- What to wear: Black pin-striped pants, a white button-down, a silver vest, a bow tie, black gloves, and a long black coat. You should also carry around an umbrella.
- How to act: Pretty shady.
Catwoman
- What to wear: A black pleather suit, a black mask, and cat ears. Wear a pair of sleek black boots and red lipstick for extra measure.
- How to act: Incredibly stealthy, but ready to pounce at a moment's notice.
Green Arrow
- What to wear: A green short-sleeved hoodie, matching pants, and a dark green mask. Of course, don't forget to bring your arrows.
- How to act: Incredibly passionate, but a little misguided.
The Flash
- What to wear: Start with a red jumpsuit, but you might want to layer more structured, metallic pieces on top of it. Get that dark red helmet with the lightning bolt details, too.
- How to act: You gotta go fast. Make sure you're dodging around people all night long. Also, bear in mind: the Flash is probably the sassiest of the bunch, so crank it up.
Supergirl
