Denzel Washington [1] is a terrific actor, but we have to admit we didn't see his SAG Awards win for male actor in a leading role coming. Washington took home the trophy on Sunday night, beating out La La Land's Ryan Gosling [2] and Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck [3]. He may be a revelation in Fences, but Gosling and Affleck have been the odds-on favorites for this year's lead actor Oscar — this development just put a wrench in things [4]. Even Washington, who had never won a SAG Award [5], seems a little surprised (but very happy [6]) to be up on stage!
