Smack in the middle of award season, the trailer for Matthew McConaughey [1]'s heavy war drama, Free State of Jones, has debuted. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali, and Keri Russell [2] are costarring in the film, based on the true story [3] of Newton Knight, a Mississippi farmer who famously led a revolution in opposition to the Civil War. The movie is due out on May 13, so there's still a long way to go until we see McConaughey in the role. This seems like the type of movie that should be in the award race for next year, but the May release date gives me pause. Check out the trailer now!
