10 Ridiculous Things That Only Furious 7 Could Pull Off

Apr 6 2015 - 7:00am

The Fast and Furious franchise isn't known for holding back on action sequences, but the latest installment really elevates the insanity to a new level. Furious 7 [1] features even more of the over-the-top car chases and fistfights that fans love, plus so much more. So while the Paul Walker tribute [2] will undoubtedly make diehards emotional, there is plenty of fun stuff that will make your eyes widen in disbelief. Here are 10 of the most ridiculous things in the movie that might cement this as the best chapter yet. Warning: spoilers below.

  1. Shaw destroys a hospital wing. The very first scene shows new villain Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) visiting his comatose brother (Luke Evans) in the hospital. As the camera follows him, you see the doctor and nurse cowering in the corner. Then, the whole floor comes into focus — completely destroyed. Dispatched SWAT team members lay around and when he walks out of the building, it appears that he demolished large portions of it. He knows there are actual sick people in there, right?
  2. Sean from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift shows up. Dom (Vin Diesel) heads to Tokyo to investigate the death of a former colleague, and guess who he sees? Sean (Lucas Black) from the 2006 installment! He's just been chilling over there the whole time.
  3. Dom and Shaw crash their cars directly into each other. In a showdown for the ages, Dom (Vin Diesel) and Shaw find themselves face-to-face early on in the movie. They're each driving incredible cars, and they play a game of chicken but neither one backs down, so they just crash into each other, ruining perfectly beautiful vehicles.

  1. The team drives their cars out of a plane. You've likely seen this in the movie's trailer [3], but Brian (Paul Walker [4]) and the team drive cars out of an airplane. Not only that, but most of them land on the road! In the middle of a forest!
  2. Brian makes a death-defying escape from a bus off the edge of a cliff. The details are unimportant, but Brian gets trapped in a bus that is slowly sliding off the edge of a cliff. He manages to climb on top of the sideways bus and jumps from the back in just the nick of time to catch ahold of the back of Letty's (Michelle Rodriguez) car as she loops it near the edge.

  1. Dom drives a car off a cliff on purpose. Cornered by bad guys (including one played by Djimon Hounsou [5], in this movie for no evident reason), Dom drives his car off a cliff to escape. It's not a 90-degree drop, but it's a steep and tree-filled landscape. He and his passenger (Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel, playing a master hacker) are barely scathed, proving once again that Dom is invincible, like a vampire or Mark Wahlberg [6].
  2. Dom and Brian drive a $3.5 million car between buildings — twice. The team scores an invite to a fancy party, and how do they repay the host? By stealing his mind-bogglingly expensive car and driving it out of the penthouse and into the next building. The brakes go out so they have no choice but to keep going through the next building, obliterating priceless auction items. They then barrel-roll out of the car, letting it smash onto the ground.

  1. Hobbs flexes a cast off his arm — then operates a giant machine gun. I could have just stopped this at Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) literally FLEXES A CAST OFF HIS ARM.
  2. The team avoids missiles from a military-style drone, which Hobbs destroys by driving off an overpass into it. Let's be real: Hobbs is the real hero of this movie. He's out of commission for most of it, but then he comes back for the final sequence and owns everyone.

  1. Dom drives a car into a helicopter, misses, and survives. To be fair, what else are you going to do when the bad guy is in a helicopter and all your have is a really fast car and a bag of grenades? At first it seems like a suicide mission, but then you realize his plan all along isn't to collide with the helicopter, but to snag the bag onto the helicopter and have Hobbs shoot at it, exploding the chopper. Boom.
