GLOW Season 2 Recap: Every Neon Pink, Spandexed Moment to Remember

Now that excitement over GLOW's third season is in the air, we're navigating the hilarious, emotional, and neon pink blur that was the Netflix series's second season. A lot goes down, including Ruth and Debbie's very palpable tension, Bash and Rhonda's impromptu wedding, and Sam's family drama. Plus, we can't forget the whole game-changing Vegas twist.

But if you find your recall of season two fuzzy, you're not alone. While we love Netflix's concise 10-episode releases, many shows, including GLOW, drop once a year, so it's easy to forget what happened in the previous season. If you need a recap of what last happened to all of your favorite gorgeous ladies of wrestling, we'll help you get ready for round three. Keep reading to brush up on everything that goes down in season two of GLOW big hair and Spandex optional.

Tensions Between Debbie and Ruth Reach an All-Time High

Although Debbie and Ruth start as best friends, their relationship quickly becomes contentious after the former learns about Ruth's affair with her husband in season one. The tension reaches a breaking point when Debbie fractures Ruth's ankle in the ring. At this point, Debbie has been seriously stressed, going through a divorce as a single mother and settling into her producer role for GLOW. And she's not thrilled about Ruth rejecting the network head's advances either, blaming her friend for the show getting moved to a dreaded 2 a.m. slot.

The ladies are pretty mad at Debbie when she finally visits Ruth at the hospital. The two women eventually air out all their sh*t in a screaming match, and Debbie brings forward a peace offering with a pair of pants.

Cherry leaves the ladies to pursue her acting career. But when she starts working on a pilot for a show, she realizes she's not all that good at acting. While the role of Junkchain has been taken by Yolanda, Cherry returns to GLOW as a character named "Black Magic" after Sam talks to her.

Sam Sorts Out His Family Drama

In season two, Sam adjusts to learning that Justine is his biological daughter. It's a weird ordeal for Sam, who's figuring out how to connect with his kid. When they finally see eye to eye, Justine's mom pops up after seeing Justine in a commercial that GLOW shot and demands that she come back home. During her Winter formal, Justine almost leaves with her boyfriend, Billy, but Sam stops her. Justine eventually goes home to Sacramento, though she and Sam decide they'll probably keep in touch.

Rhonda Gets Married

Because of the show's bad time slot, everyone in the cast is demoralized and looking for new work. Rhonda (aka Britannica-slash-Kate-Nash) reveals she won't be able to get work because she's undocumented and later informs the ladies she'll be deported. For the show's finale, there's a ruse for Rhonda to get married on the air to her superfan Cupcake so she can stay in the country. However, Bash cuts in and asks her to marry him instead.

Meanwhile, There's Something on Bash's Mind

Bash, while working with Debbie to talk with other network executives, learns that his butler and close friend Florian has died in a hospital in San Francisco, from what's likely AIDS. He hires cleaners to scrub down his house in a moment that appears to be a struggle with grief and perhaps his own identity — we know Bash has previously been uncomfortable while in a gay bar when searching for his friend earlier in the season.

Sparks Fly Between Yolanda and Arthie

Not all is great for Arthie this season, as we learn that she wasn't able to reinvent her stereotypical stage character of Beirut and that she's failed out of medical school. But sparks do fly between her and her new roommate Yolanda. They decide they'll keep living together after the show ends and later share a kiss during the wedding.

Ruth Begins Dating Russell

At the end of the second season, Ruth begins seeing the cute cameraman Russell. While their first plans to go to a film festival flop because of Debbie, Ruth later picks up a few movies and visits his apartment — right after a very awkward kiss with Sam at Justine's Winter formal. We'll definitely, probably see Sam and Ruth sort out whatever's going on between them in season three.

The Ladies Go to Vegas

The Ladies Go to Vegas

The gorgeous ladies put on one helluva successful final show, but the executives in the audience don't budge. In fact, their last-ditch effort is a bust because the KDTV network owns the GLOW characters, so Sam and Debbie can't sell the show to another one.

But by some miracle, it turns out one of the parents at Justine's school has a stake at a club in Vegas. He asks them if they want to headline there and make 25 grand a week. And so, GLOW will be heading to Vegas for round three, with Geena Davis set to lead the pack.
