Grown-ish [1] has received rave reviews so far, so it's no wonder its ratings have been solid, too. The first episode drew 1.56 million viewers [2], and apparently, that was more than enough to convince Freeform to renew the college series [3] for a second season. On Thursday, it was announced that the Black-ish [4] spinoff — which explores topics of race, sexuality, and drug abuse as Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi [5]) navigates college — would be returning for a sophomore season consisting of 20 episodes, an uptick from its freshman order of just 13 episodes.
Upon learning of the early renewal, 17-year-old Shahidi, who plays the lead character, revealed that she will be headed to the writers' room [7] to make sure the characters' storylines remain authentic to the young adult experience. Here's hoping that all of the cast members [8], including handsome (and talented) eye candy Aaron [9] (Trevor Jackson) and Luca [10] (Luka Sabbat), return for more juicy drama in season two, which will likely revolve around Zoey's sophomore year at California University.
