4 Reasons Daenerys Should Be Called the Breaker of Hearts Instead of the Breaker of Chains

Jun 28 2016 - 7:00am

The Night's King [1] might technically be known as the coldest dude on Game of Thrones [2], but Daenerys could easily give him a run for his money. The Mother of Dragons has no qualms about breaking the hearts of her various suitors, because when you're a queen dead set on brutally overthrowing a foreign kingdom's existing rulers and women only earn 78 cents to every Gold Dragon, you don't have a lot of time to worry about things like feelings. Despite the tragic death of her husband, Khal Drogo, in season one, and her botched betrothal to Hizdahr zo Loraq in season five, she's had a very Samantha Jones approach [3] to her love life. Keep reading to see every guy who's been lucky enough to have his heart broken by Dany, and then check out where she stands after the sixth season finale [4].

Daario Naharis

When we meet Daario Naharis, a Tyroshi sellsword, in season three, it's clear that there's an instant attraction between him and Dany. She's more intrigued at first than anything, but thanks to plenty of witty banter and a genuine affection, their relationship turns physical [5]. Although Daario falls head over heels for the Dragon Queen, she's got bigger fish to fry (er, marry) in King's Landing, so she leaves him brokenhearted in Meereen.

Their breakup scene in the season six finale is tender and sad, and for a fleeting moment you really think she might cave in to Daario's requests to accompany her to Westeros. She decides against it, though, and they part on relatively amicable terms, and afterwards she tells Tyrion that she "felt nothing" while breaking things off with him. Maybe she just needed someone to remind her exactly of how perfect a butt [6] she was leaving behind?

Jorah Mormont

Daenerys and Jorah have a complicated, unfortunate relationship thanks to that time she found out he wasn't being her trusted adviser out of the kindness of his heart, but actually because he'd been tasked with spying on her. Of course, Jorah does love Dany (in a creepy and obsessive kind of way), and by the end of season six he's back in the Khaleesi's good graces. His devotion to her is only rivaled by her relationship with Daario, and the scene [7] of Dany tearfully telling him he better find a cure for his greyscale is a kick to the gut. He doesn't get the girl, and his heart is likely in shambles, but when you have a rare skin condition that turns you to stone, you don't have too many options.

Rhaegal and Viserion

If my mother put me in chains and locked me away in the dank basement of a pyramid, my heart wouldn't be in good shape, either.
