6 Reasons Hanna Could Potentially Die on Pretty Little Liars

Jun 4 2016 - 5:30am

We're creeping ever closer to the season seven premiere of Pretty Little Liars [1], and we're terrified. As you probably know, one of the burning questions from the finale [2] was a simple, "Is Hanna OK?" Now that the season premiere's teaser [3] has arrived, we're going with a resounding no. Keep reading to see why we might be losing Hanna for good, then feast on more details from the upcoming season [4], which arrives on June 21.

The Preview For the Season Premiere Says It All

"Save Hanna." The mission in the upcoming season seven premiere [5] is clear. Hanna's life is at stake. One small error, and she could be gone for good. It doesn't really help that there's something else, something very sinister, lurking in the preview.

Death and Murder Are Definitely on the Table

Let's take another look at the trailer, and the random quotes that are sprinkled intermittently throughout.

"How could we let this happen?" Aria asks.
"I don't know if I can live with this," Emily says.
"There is no other way, Emily!" Spencer claims. "It was a well-thought-out plan. When it ends like this, it's called murder."

So it's clear that someone isn't going to survive. The real question is, who bites the dust?

Hanna Is Definitely Already in Trouble

In the wake of the mind-melting season six finale [6], Hanna is in the clutches of "A.D.," or "Uber A," or the new "Big Bad" or however you want to refer to the show's latest villain. The point is there's no telling what's in store for her, but it's clear she's in grave danger.

This Isn't the First Time Hanna's Been in Real Danger

Hanna's fallen into the wrong hands more than once — she's been hit by a car, she's been thrown in jail, and she's been trapped in a dollhouse. In spite of all that, she's persevered, but how many times will she be able to bounce back? How many times will she get lucky, and what will happen when her luck runs out?

The Quotes About This New Villain Are Not Reassuring

Lucy Hale spoke to MTV about the new villain [7], saying, "It's definitely life or death, and it's smarter and edgier and deadlier . . . the stakes are definitely a lot higher. It's not, 'I'm going to expose your secrets.' It's, 'I'm going to kill you if you don't give me what I want.'"

The show's creator, I. Marlene King, said, "This Big Bad has an agenda, and it's to find out why this person passes away — and to seek revenge on the person responsible. And it will not stop until that person pays, and [the Big Bad] will kill people to get that answer."

"The situations are more life or death, so it's not just all dolls and games," Ashley Benson said.

It's clear now that this new person aims to kill. It makes Hanna's prospects even worse.

It Would Raise the Stakes

Bottom line: starting the season off with the death of a major character would be the ultimate way to kick-start the season. It effectively would set the events of the rest of this story in motion. It would make the main group more determined that ever to unmask this villain, to unravel the mystery once and for all. To end it for good. We've been misled before, sure. There's a chance Hanna will survive, and someone else will die. We'll just have to wait and see.
