Heroes Rundown Chapter 11: Powerless

Here's how I feel upon the completion of the second volume of Heroes: 80 percent annoyed, 20 percent relieved. I'm relieved because this first half of the season is over and now everyone can work on making Heroes good again for the third volume, "Villains." I'm annoyed because — along with being a pretty lame episode — they told us "two heroes would fall" in this episode and there are definitely more deserving victims than the ones who bit the dust this week!

I also feel like this season has been a waste so far. Even Tim Kring has admitted as much, which just frustrates me more. I'm going to have to think long and hard about watching this show again when (if?) it returns in the Spring.

For now, some thoughts on this week's final chapter of volume two:

  • If nothing else, this week's episode included some playfulness and humor that isn't always present in the show: Maya wearing an apron, borrowed from Mohinder and Parkman, that reads "World's Best Dad;" Nathan and Parkman's rocky landing together; Claire saying to Mr. Muggles, "You won't leave me, will you, Mr. Muggles?" The dog turns and trots away.
  • I really warmed to Elle this episode. She's getting more character depth, and more to work with besides just making snarky comments and being weird. She seems like such a little girl sometimes and I feel sorry for her.
  • More thoughts (including spoilers) if you

  • What does it say about me that I’m still attracted to Sylar even when he’s so horrifically evil? No, actually, let's not talk about it.
  • Angela Petrelli must have a hard life, being so evil and also a mom.
  • West, go home!
  • "Hello, Claire Bear." Awwww!
  • Monica's situation with the thug trying to set her on fire featured a kind of real-world evil — not superhero comic-book evil — that made me uneasy and scared.
  • The Peter vs. Parkman mental argument is the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while. Their jerky heads and contorted faces just look laughably ridiculous.
  • So, that would make the montage of heroes at the end while we hear a voiceover of Nathan's speech the second dumbest thing.
  • Maya just carries a photo of herself and her brother in her pocket? At all times?
  • Nathan: "We’ve been used by these people, manipulated. But it stops here." That's how I feel about this show in general.
  • This episode was way harsh on the kids: Molly witnesses all sorts of horrible things and Micah watches as the building containing his mother explodes. Sheesh.
  • Great. Now Nathan and Niki are gone, but we're still stuck with Maya and Sylar (and any number of other unnecessary people). I think they killed off the wrong characters. What do you think?

No more Heroes for a while, guys, so chat it up! What did you think of this week's episode?

Great episode! I loved Elle going after Sylar! ! ! I need more Kristen Bell / Zachary Quinto interaction in the new episodes! I am still in shock about Nathan getting shot - he better not die!!! Plus - I am sure that Adam will not die either....uh oh for Hiro....I must say, I really didn't care too much about Nikki's probable doom...although I do feel bad for Micah. Hopefully Maya will get a better story next time...her character needs more development.

Cant believe no one mentioned this yet. Most hilarious part of the show: Nathan and Parkman, in flight and landing. HHAHAHAH HILARIOUS! Parkman was totally tooo heavy for Nathan to carry all the way to Texas.

All I have to say about that episode is Mohinder, you are a loser!!! I mean, seriously, he gives Sylar the cure? Had Elle not shown up, Sylar would have killed them all, with or without the cure. Why bring back a villain? For Volume 3, you say? Sure, but why completely (imo) character-assassinate Mohinder in the process. What an idiot! Oh, and did Peter suddenly forget about his precious girlfriend who is still trapped in the future?

I thought the finale was boring and dragged on a little longer than it should have. I think they're gonna use Claire's blood to bring back Nathan (after all, she is his daughter). Loved that Adam got stuck in the coffin. I don't think Hiro knows about the head thing (what are they, zombies?) Sylar - not hot...creepy with eyebrows that need to be shaved/plucked (whatever) but not hot. Is it just me or does Sylar and Elle look a bit cross-eyed at times? On Maya's photo with her brother, I don't think it was from his wedding because it was just the two of them in the shot and they weren't wearing the same clothes they did at the wedding. I want to know about the other artifacts in the room as well. From what I saw there was a key, a brain, a deck of cards and a couple other things that my brain couldn't process quick enough (I shouldn't have deleted it...) I wonder why Adam was trying to reach for the key when he already had the virus. Oh, and when Peter "destroyed" the virus, does that mean he has it now? Because it looked like his body absorbed it... Anyways, on a side note, is Mr. Muggles the same dog in the Canon commercials with Maria Sharapova? I know...totally random question.

I agree that they killed off the wrong people. I had a feeling they were going to kill off Nikki/Jessica. They had been alluding to that all season. But why Nathan?!! I am so crushed. He was given the "Cure-all Blood" by Peter which cured his burns. So, could he return just like Noah Bennet aka Horned Rimmed Glasses? I also was disappointed when they brought Maya back from the dead. She's a useless new character. I figure if they could easily off her brother, why not her?

Personally, I thought the show was fine. Compared to the rest of Season 2, at least it answered some questions & had a good amount of action in it. I actually didn't mind the "mental-fight" between Parkman & Peter haha. But yes, Season 2 was just not up to par. Even though Season 1 started off slow as well, it had a great build-up that kept me watching & made me love it. This year, it was the love I developed last year that kept me watching, not necessarily the storyline. I hope Volume 3 is much better, because I plan to keep watching. Tim Kring, I will stay faithful, just make Heroes better again! Btw, when Maya got shot, the first thought to pop into my head was, "Heeey everyone on TeamSugar is gonna be so happy about this!" But then she rose from the dead. Womp Womp. :-P

Ohh and one more thing, I like how Peter forgot all about his girlfriend stuck in the future. He totally didn't mention her ass. Last one to say anything was Adam. Ohh whats her face, was a distant memory to Peter once he saw his brother. Ohh and how come no one notice the bright flashing red light in the vent. It was totally in Peters site.

I just watched the ep last night. It was better than the eps before, but still disappointed with this season. I think Noah shot Nathan. He is back with the company, and what better way to show is loyalty. They showed someone walking away in a suit, so that made me think of Noah. But I don't think Nathan is dead. He has Adams blood running through him, I bet he will rejuvenate. I don't think it will be so instantaneous like with the burns. I think Nathans blood and Adams blood will mutate and, it will take a shot to the head to kill Nathan. I really don't think theres any saving Niki, unless some other personality jumped out. But she does have the virus so it's pretty unlikely. Out of all the cans in the world sylar gets him some spinich. I thought that was funny. All i could hear in my head was the pop-eye song. Hiro was wicked for putting Adam in the grave, I was shocked by that one. 1 bad ass point for Hiro.

I thought the overall episode was good. I never really cared for Nikki but I didn't like that she died. Nathan getting "killed" was so obvious, we haven't been seeing much of him anyway so maybe he'll stay dead. It was really cool when Hiro put Adam in the coffin, definitely just like Hiro - he couldn't kill anyone and this was the only other way. I still can't wait to see what happens whenever they get this strike over.

i rekon peter will save nathan some how. either with claire's blood or he'll travel back in time. atleast i hope so! it would be stupid of them to kill off 2 main characters.

this finale was disappointing.

Sylar - SOO HOT. At first I was annoyed he was back, but after this episode I'm ecstatic. Can't wait to see what other shenanigans he gets into next. =) Wonder Twins - It was always all about Maya, I'm glad Alejandro is dead. And I might be the only one, but I am extremely glad that Maya is still alive - her story has loads of potential. Also I didn't buy her dying, because the spent WAY to much time on her story for her to be killed so quickly. Me thinks that she'll be a force to be reckoned with next season. HRG - I totally buy him getting back with the company. And he def shot Nathan. Nathan - I truly believe that Nathan's death is the one that sticks. Something about his assassination was so final...and to be honest, they have no reason to bring him back. Peter - I have nothing so say except that he is way hot, and when/how will he save Caitlin? Also, he needs to learn how to judge character. People will always want to take advantage of him because of what he can do. Parkman - Did not get enough screen time. But then again, he annoys me. Monica, Micah - I want to see Micah use his powers more, his is pretty fascinating to me. And i love Monica, I'm interested to see how she fits into the big picture. Nikki - I'm pretty sure she's not dead. I dunno, just a feeling. Maybe cause I love Ali Larter way to much? Claire, West - West was kind of useless, but I still enjoyed him while he was there. And he's right, Claire is stupid. In what galaxy would exposing herself make things better?!? And the fact that she was exposing not just herself, but others - pisses me off. And finally... Elle - LOVE her. Her character is honestly so interesting to me, I'm glad she didn't die. KB is signed on for 13 episodes, so far she's been in what 5? She has 8 episodes left, the season has 11. Me thinks she's gonna turn into a huge hero and will be killed in the season finale, or somewhere around there. Which is sad. I'm glad she's not gone, because I think we've only just begun to get to know Elle and what she's truly capable of. This girl more than anything craves love and acceptance - I think she's going to try and get that by saving the world. KUDOS to anyone who actually read all that!

I so wish Maya had died... liek seriously could this girl be anymore annoying. I wish Mohinder hadn't saved her but hes such a good guy. I alsowanted Monica to die, I think its cause I dont like many of the newbies. Im such a season one lover. I am happy that Nicki died though, her character was loosing her touch, especially since she didn't want her powers. I am so mad Nathan died!!!!!!! I loved him, he was such a sweet guy and he was like the only one who could control Peter, its gonna devastate him. I love Adam, hes so evil yet clever and I so don't think he's going to die under the ground. um has anyone realized how hot Zachary Quinto is... like seriously DAMN!haha. well i loved the scene where Sylar was in the alley, he looked like such a druggie shooting up. Im not surprised that Nathan's mom was the one to order his death... like im just not. Im happy Elle is gaining more of a personality and she is defiantly growing on me. oh and West & Claire breaking up.. thank god!

I really think Maya's going to redeem herself/have a use by learning how to control her power. And to wrap things up neatly, I'll go out on a limb that when she learns to focus it and kill one person, she'll have to kill herself to keep them dead (since her brother isn't around to balance things anymore). I did love seeing Sylar shoot her though. No hesitation at all.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my above thoughts re HRG. It looked to me like he was the shooter, but if that was the case, it goes completely against his established character. I do not buy that he's gone back into the co.'s fold.
Fab_Kitty Fab_Kitty 9 years
I agree w/ all those saying this season's been a disappointment and Adam's finally revealed motivation for releasing the virus was completely stolen from Watchmen. uncool. I haven't re-watched it, but on first sight, it looked like HRG was the shooter. He's my favorite character and I have a really hard time believing that in spite of what he knows about the co. he'd so willingly re-enlist just due to vague threats against his family. Finally, count me in with those annoyed by Maya's recovery and Nathan's uncertain future. double uncool. The spinach ref. did make me smile, tho.

For Micah's sake I don't like that Niki died.. He's lost both of his parents now. That's horrible.

Totally killed off the wrong people. This makes me a bad person I'm sure, but I was relieved when Sylar got rid of Maya. Her story just doesn't contribute anything at all to the storyline. The thing is, why are these people so dumb sometimes, since they're supposed to be all superhuman? You know that Adam is going to get out of that coffin!

What was with the symbol on Adam's sword coming up when Peter nuked the shanti virus? Or was I seeing things? It was in the smoke and from Peter's expression he saw it as well....

Nathan isn't dead yet. We haven't seen him die yet and the news report only said "shot". I think he'll pull through. However, I am really really pissed that they left the show on another cliffhanger with Nathan in peril. Grrrrrrrr.
