13 Ways to Physically and Emotionally Prepare Yourself For Game of Thrones

Jul 15 2017 - 2:00pm

Worried about how you'll cope when Game of Thrones [1] returns on July 16? Yes, there's a lot of excitement and anticipation and it's a lot to process, but there's no need to stress because we've created this very necessary guide to help you physically and emotionally prepare for season seven. No matter what type of Game of Thrones fan [2] you are, here are 13 simple steps to ready yourself for all the action.

Make sure all devices are prepared and ready for Game of Thrones takeoff.

Charge your laptop! Pay your cable bill! Check passwords! Steal passwords! Do what you need to do to see that premiere LIVE because you know it's the only way to go.

Avoid plans and clear your schedule for every Sunday/Monday through August.

You'll need all day Sunday to prep your GOT-themed snacks [4] and build up enough mental strength to make it through the show's shocking moments [5], and you should just go ahead and block off Monday mornings for your recap-reading time.

Stock up on eye drops and caffeine.

It's just a fact: you'll be up all night staring at your bright cell phone screen because you want to overanalyze every little scene and you CAN'T. GET. ENOUGH.

Also, buy tissues, comfort foods, and wine.

Literally whatever you need to cope.

Flex your emotional muscles by rewatching past seasons and/or YouTube montages set to melodramatic songs.

Skip the Red Wedding, though. That's just self-sabotage, and nobody needs to do that to themselves.

Accept that you might lose a favorite this season.

It's unfair and life is cruel, but it's pretty much inevitable that one of your favorite characters will die in season seven. Not everyone can be brought back from the dead, you know?

Kiss your to-do list goodbye.

It's Game of Thrones season. You will not be productive, and that's perfectly understandable.

Comb through every theory.

This is the only type of homework we can truly stand behind.

Create a cozy, comforting space where you can curl up and cry/scream.

Invest in a nice blanket, or maybe a new pillow. Treat yourself.

Start rocking your Game of Thrones swag.

Bonus points if you go full-on Jon Snow for a dinner party.

Create the necessary group text.

Only TRUE fans allowed. Sorry, Friend Who Doesn't Watch It Live. Nixed.

RSVP "no" to viewing parties with people who talk through the show.

Hard pass.

Celebrate and get SO EXCITED because WINTER. IS. HERE.
