Director Terrence Malick (To the Wonder, Tree of Life) is known for making polarizing works of art that feature his (always good-looking) actors in beautiful or interesting settings, and the elements for Knight of Cups are Christian Bale [1] as Rick and an excessive Hollywood backdrop. From the trailer, we can tell that his character is probably on some sort of journey searching for self and love, which a couple of his potential love interests (Natalie Portman [2], Imogen Poots, Cate Blanchett [3]) remark on during the dreamy but intense preview. Given Malick's penchant for nonlinear, experimental storytelling, this mysterious trailer may actually be pretty telling.
