Lost Recap Episode 6: "The Other Woman"

Lost Episode 6: "The Other Woman"

Bottom line of this episode of Lost: Sucks to be Juliet. I still don't altogether trust her, but man, she has got it bad on that island. Anyone else find her to be really pretty in this episode, too? OK, maybe I am warming to her. Just a little.

The episode wasn't as gripping as last week's with Desmond's crazy experiences, but it was more of a fill-in-the-gaps episode, rather than a blow-your-mind episode. For a thorough recap of "The Other Woman," check out WhiplashGirlchild's post. To see some of my thoughts and to share your own (spoilers ahead),

  • I love how they tried to mislead us in the beginning, when Juliet is explaining to a therapist that she hates to be the center of attention. My first assumption was that Juliet is one of the Oceanic Six — but no. OK, so maybe they only misled me.
  • There was a time when I thought the driving rain in the forest meant something significant every time it happened, like a motif or something. Now I'm pretty sure it's not that calculated.
  • How did Therapist Lady Harper get a message from Ben when he's being held captive by Locke?
  • Goodwin says he got the burn on his arm because he "was pressed up against a transformer." Like, Optimus Prime?
  • Dan: "So they have Miles."
Kate: "Yeah, but he's fine. They're treating him fine." You know, grenade in the mouth, he's really comfortable.
  • Best line of the episode: "It's very stressful being an Other, Jack." — Juliet
  • Claire's haircuts are always so fresh and modern.
  • I love Ben's allusion to the rabbit he used to trick Sawyer into thinking he'd been implanted with a pacemaker. "This didn't have a number on it, did it?" Hilarious.
  • Lots of private vs. public discussion. Juliet hates to be the center of attention. She doesn't know why Goodwin has a problem with being private about their relationship.
  • OK, this whole Charles Widmore thing. First off, who is videotaping the incident with Widmore and the "unfortunate" member of Ben's people who got caught? Also, if Ben really did "tape over" the Red Sox game that he showed Jack that one time, then this thing with Widmore happened between that time and right now.
  • I still want to know why, exactly, Widmore is so invested in finding the island.
  • Michael Emerson, who plays Ben is simply one of the best actors working on TV right now. Unbelievable.
  • When Juliet wonders about the children (Zack and Emma), Ben references the lists again. "Who are we to question who's on the list and who's not?"
  • I always suspected something weird was up between Ben and Juliet. But holy cow he's a psychopath. "You're mine!"
  • It's just like Jack to be all macho and smug, "He knows where to find me." Barf.
  • The promos for next week imply that the person on the boat is "a face you never expected to see again." By this point, many of us think it's Michael on that boat. But what if it isn't? What if it's someone else entirely? Someone we all think is dead? That would be crazy.

What did you think about this all-Juliet episode?

I think after last week's episode, there was no way this one would live up to it. I'm kind of hoping it's not Michael on the boat, since everyone already thinks it is anyway.

Ok, I would just like to ask... did anyone totally think Moulin Rouge with this episode? Ben is just like the Duke who thinks he "owns" Satine. "She is mine..." Then there is Jack. Jack is certainly no Ewan McGregor, but he still apparently is willing to risk his life to be with Juliet. He's also willing to risk his life to be with Kate. So, not as romantic... but you get the point. But ultimately, Michael Emerson could have played the Duke if he had a good British accent. The creepiness of both of them is undeniable.

I agree with lkandy, last week's episode rocked. And they follow it up with a Juliet episode that was a bit lackluster for me. I really don't connect with her. And after the performance last week by the actor that plays Desmond (sorry I don't know his name), I was just looking for more from our Oceanic survivors, not the others and nameless shrinks. Again, those characters we've grown to love, Hurley for example, are simple background trees in the forest. We miss him and Sun and Jin! And Rose and Bernard! Agree with BuzzSugar about one of the best lines, though. "It's very stressful being an Other, Jack." — Juliet I enjoyed the parachutest dead pan comedic one liners a few weeks ago, too.

I don't normally read theory pages, but I found this one recently and I don't know who made this web site, but it's fasinating!!!

painted portrait of the blonde woman, not the dinner rolls..

as for who juliet looks like, i suppose it could be ben's mom. there was a painted portrait in his house when she walked in with the dinner rolls of a blonde woman. i kept expecting the camera to pan over so we could see it and make the connection.

oh also - the 'her' that juliet looks like - ben's mom???

hotstuff, I agree. It was also nowhere near as hot as the Jack & Kate kiss. I think that's on purpose though.

Can I just say that Jack & Juliet's kiss is no where NEAR as hot as Sawyer & Kate kises!!!
cupid21479 cupid21479 9 years funny!...over the summer I re-watched all of the past seasons - marathon style... (I know I need a life)....and after a couple of hours the whispers in the dark got to me too...that's why now I only watch the show after a glass of wine! lol

I would give anything for it to be Eko on that boat! Yeah, I hated how they played with our heads, as usual, in the beginning making it seem like Juliet was one of the 6. I'm pissed that they gave Juliet a whole episode. I don't like her and will never trust her. She's shady as hell, I'm sure she'll break Jacks heart...but who cares. Juliet sure as hell shouldn't have gotten an epi before Sun & Jin or even Rose & Bernard. Sorry but she's just not one of the crew! My fave line & scene was when Sawyer is like WTF and Ben is like 'See you at diner'. Too funny! This brings me to my hate of Locke! He just does whatever the hell he wants without consulting anyone. I can't believe he used to be one of my favs. Did anyone else notice some slight chemistry between Locke & Claire? That may actually be interesting. He did beat Charlie up for her. I'm glad they brought up the kids...poor babies. I love the whispers but they scare the ish out of me! I hate when the whispers come and I'm watching by myself in the dark.

i loved when juliet was bitching about harper and goodwin was like "uh, she's my wife." classic! thoughts on the boat: i'm fully expecting michael, which makes me think it won't be... i'm hoping for christian shepard, cause how amazing would that be? and last but not least, i'm suspecting walt - in the interview where the actors ask the writers questions one of them says something about time and growing being different off the island and the other one says something like 'you're said more than enough' leading me to believe that it's important. theory on ben and getting info to and from people: is locke living in ben's house??? how completely plausible does it seem that ben would have created back entrances and escape routes in his own house?? especially in his downstairs cellar thing. even if it's not his own house, it's his damn village, i'm sure he knows it backwards and forwards and has a lot more freedom than he lets locke believe. slimy guy. ok, enough from me. =)

derekh - I thought it actually looked like there WAS a stack of paper in the safe. That's what I thought he was gonna pull out as I expected that the tape was still the Sox game. Maybe I'll have to go back and watch that part again. :ponder:

I keep thinking it would be crazy if Niki and Paulo were on the boat since they were burried alive, but but I doubt it. I still want to know where the other Others are. Where has Richard been all season? Where are those kids, since they finally mentioned them? Its like they all disappeared? And maybe we will finally learn some more about "The List" of who was good and who was bad. That would be nice!!!

I also hoping the person on the boat is someone other than Michael! I agree with geeksugar, why would Locke need to sit down if it was just Michael? That's totally not that shocking. I read somewhere before this season started that Boone comes back at some point in the season. I assumed it would be in a flashback rather than some sort of freaky voodoo resurrection, but wouldn't it be AWESOME if it was Boone? I loved him. He might not be the best actor on the planet, but he sure is purdy! Plus, the island is known for it's healing capabilities, as demonstrated not only with Locke and his legs, but when he got shot, and with Rose's cancer. Wouldn't it be crazy if he was somehow healed and resurrected?? LOVE THIS SHOW!

Okay, so did anyone else notice that when Locke took the video tape out of the safe, there was nothing else in it, but later Ben walks over to the safe and pulls out the file on Widmore? Locke almost looked like he wanted to say something, but didn't. Remember when Ben told Locke last season(? I'm losing track of time here) about a box where whatever you wish for would appear inside?

OMG Renee, I have to say, I LOVED that they brought the whispery stuff back. It's possibly the creepiest part of Lost. I love the writers all the more for not forgetting anything that was part of the first season! And where did Harper go? Girlfriend just disappeared. I hate that.
tess2530 tess2530 9 years
Just a guess (I can't remember what she looked like), but I bet Juliet looks like Ben's childhood friend. Annie or something like that. I'm not sure how Harper would know that though.
sumbum sumbum 9 years
Also, it kinda freaked me out when Ben yelled "because you're MINE" to Juliet. It gave Ben a whole different aspect to his personality. It was weird to see him lose his cool. I wonder who the woman that Harper says Juliet looks like is and who she was to Ben.

About the rain...I read on Lostpedia that according to the LOST timetable, it would be around 12/26/04..which was the day of the Indian Ocean tsunami. Some people say that the island is actually in the Indian Ocean and not the Pacific. Was anyone else totally distracted by Harper's mole on her chin?

Okay so this is totally random but....... what if it's Walt? I'm actually laughing because it's so unbelieveable but hey I thought I'd put it out there. He WAS on the island (well we think, Locke saw him) and he has grown up, but he's still only like 16 in real life. In reality there's Not that many people it could be. I hate having to wait a week to find out though! Also, were do you think the rest of the Others are hiding out? There must be more bunker type things. How do they do the whispery disapeary thing?!?!???!?! oh i love lost
tess2530 tess2530 9 years
That's an interesting theory, Curly, that Michael is the last of the Oceanic 6! I hope not because i'm really pulling for Sun and Jin. But if Michael and Walt are the last 2, that would mean that Aaron is not included in the O6.
Tech Tech 9 years
And BTW, I'm dying for the man on the boat to be someone presumed dead. Why would Locke need to sit down if it was smelly old Michael?
