All 17 Mid- and Postcredits Scenes From Marvel Movies

May 9 2016 - 8:00am

Marvel movies are full of action, but some of the most exciting scenes happen after the credits have rolled. With Captain America: Civil War [1] opening this week, it's a great time to revisit all the sequences over the years. Sit back, relax, and enjoy each scene from all 12 movies so far! Heads up, there are 17 because eventually Marvel just started injecting scenes in the middle of the credits. Take a look, and find out if there is an end-credits scene in Captain America: Civil War [2].

Iron Man

Iron Man, in 2008, was the first movie in phase one of Marvel's grand plan. At this point, audiences maybe didn't even know to stay until the end of the credits to catch Nick Fury surprising Tony Stark in his home, wanting to discuss the "Avengers Initiative."

The Incredible Hulk

Tony Stark then passed on the favor by appearing in the postcredits scene from The Incredible Hulk, in which he approaches General Ross about the team he's putting together.

Iron Man 2

Agent Phil Coulson foreshadows the arrival of Thor in the final scene from Iron Man 2. He walks up to a giant crater in the desert, then calls someone and cryptically says, "Sir, we found it."

Thor

In which Nick Fury shows off the Tesseract to Dr. Erik Selvig, and while Erik is marveling at it (pun intended), Loki appears in a reflection. Spooky!

Captain America: The First Avenger

Nick Fury proves to be the MVP of postcredits scenes, appearing again in the finale sequence for Captain America: The First Avenger. He approaches Cap in the gym, and the quick scene transitions into a teaser for The Avengers, which came out the following Summer.

The Avengers (Midcredits Scene)

What's better than one postcredits scene? Two! This midcredits scene is the first look we get at megavillain Thanos.

The Avengers (Postcredits Scene)

Because the movie simply couldn't end on that note, there's also a funny scene that features the team eating shawarma.

Iron Man 3

To the delight of Science Bros [3] fans everywhere, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner are the only ones in this cute final scene.

Thor: The Dark World (Midcredits Scene)

A year before Benicio Del Toro [4] is featured as The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy, he appears at the end of Thor: The Dark World, agreeing to protect the Tesseract. If you watch until the end of the clip, he clearly has other intentions for the prized artifact.

Thor: The Dark World (Postcredits Scene)

Then at the very end of the movie, Thor turns up to smooch his lady, Jane. There's also a peek at the Jotunheim monster chasing a bird, which is hilarious.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Midcredits Scene)

You'll have to skip to 2:21 for this one, but the all-important scene introduces twins Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Postcredits Scene)

Even later, we see Bucky Barnes incognito strolling through the Captain America exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum.

Guardians of the Galaxy (Midcredits Scene)

How could you resist this little snippet of Baby Groot dancing to the Jackson 5?

Guardians of the Galaxy (Postcredits Scene)

This is a weird one. Rather than introducing a vital new character and thickening the overall plot of the Marvel films, this scene shows The Collector sitting among the ruins of his museum while Howard the Duck is in the background. It's a nod to the 1986 box office disaster that was Howard the Duck, one of Marvel's first movie adaptations.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (Midcredits Scene)

Thanos returns in this sequence [5], in which he puts on his Infinity Gauntlet and says, "Fine, I'll do it myself."

Ant-Man (Midcredits Scene)

Hank Pym unveils the Wasp suit to Hope, foreshadowing that she will step into his late wife's shoes as the hero.

Ant-Man (Postcredits Scene)

Finally, Ant-Man ends with a look at Bucky Barnes being held prisoner by Captain America and Falcon. You'll have to see Captain America: Civil War [6] to find out what it means!
