A Melrose Place Remake Is Really in the Works

Remember those crazy, Lisa Rinna-fueled rumors of a new spinoff edition of Melrose Place? Not so crazy after all.

The CW really is developing a contemporary take on the Aaron Spelling soap opera. It's just barely in the works — there's no script or showrunner, nor has anything about the plot been revealed — but it's definitely in motion.

So, OK, let's talk about this. It's true that 90210 has gotten decent ratings (better than Gossip Girl most weeks, in fact). But it could still use some work. And the fact that Melrose Place was itself a spinoff of 90210 Classic does not mean that the new version requires a spinoff of its own!

Then again, it sounds like Rinna's on board, and hey, Heather Locklear's not doing much these days. Do you think the CW is smart to move forward with this spinoff?

I think the only way this show could survive would be to start all over again. Same building - wholy different characters. The others are in their 40's now, and we would have to hope and believe that they finally moved out and hopefully stopped betraying each other so much. Hell one of them turned straight, and moved with a bombing red head to Desperate Housewives. I really don't think I need to know what Amanda Woodward is doing these days.

OMG. They will not stop with this remake stuff. They see one shows success and they all want to ride on it. This is all Candy Spelling fault for letting the rights to the show to be uses by other producers.

stupid idea. Lisa Rinna is their hope that its a hit?! Talk about doomed! I agree, 90210 is getting better. still not 90210 quality but much better than it was in the beginning. Now if only every time something happened Naomi's nostrils wouldnt flair open, that would be great.

ilanac, watch 90210 again. It's getting better now that the characters and dynamics are well established. Last nights episode was actually REALLY good.

i think that it's really dumb to have a spinoff of melrose place to be honest. i think that there was a time for it and that time has passed. we're seeing that although 90210 got good ratings before, so many of us aren't really into watching it anymore. i haven't seen it in like 3 weeks - and i'm ok with that. oh well..we'll have to see if there's any traction with this new idea and whether they will even look to get some of the old cast back.

MIssLulu, all the 90210's through season 5 ARE on DVD (I own them LMAO) but I understand they are trying to build on the success of the new 90210, I just don't think this show will do as well. Everyone is right, the demo of the CW is much younger than a melrose place crowd will draw. I never liked MP in the first place, I think I watched 2 season, but when 90210 ended, I quit watching it. I couldn't tell you anything about it other than Elisabeth Shue's brother and Courtney Thorne Smith were in the original. LMAO

Why should anybody do this?!?! The Original was so great! And nobody can do Melrose Place without Heather Locklear!!!! And besides the new Beverly Hills sucks. Without the original Castmembers the show is so lame. I don´t understand why they don´t show the old shows on dvd and forget the hole remake sh...!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! You can't have Marica, Laura, or Doug since their characters are dead (and honestly, you cannot bring them back from the dead), so you cannot bring back Melrose Place!

Has Hollywood officially run out of ideas or something? Leave Melrose Place alone, it was a good show in it's time and they don't need to bring it back!

I'm with sexymotherfakir, although the new 90210 is more risque than the old one it still caters to a younger audience, while MP was always aimed at an older group. Unless they plan on making it a bit younger, unlikely since Lisa Rinna would be going for it (sorry, but she's no spring chicken) I can't see it catching on too much.

i'm all for it. i love the new 90210 and i think a modern melrose place will be totally nuts

I don't think it's a smart move because it doesn't really go with CW's strong demographic. Melrose Place calls for mature, edgy and risque. Not exactly CW's M.O.
