Can the big screen withstand the combined star power of Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep? The actresses are teaming up for a film version of the Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning play August: Osage County. Frankly, we might as well just hand them Oscar nominations now.
The play follows Violet (Streep), the pill-popping matriarch of a working-class family with three daughters. When her husband goes missing, the kids come together for support (Roberts will play Violet's bullheaded eldest, who is coping with her own marital problems). Family secrets are revealed, and as sometimes happens when you put a mom and her daughters in one room, they give each other quite the tongue-lashing. Roberts and Streep duking it out? This is going to be one for the history books.
