Movie Preview: Robert Pattinson in Little Ashes

The tag line for Little Ashes declares that this is a story that has gone untold — until now. The film follows three of Spain's great creative minds in the tumultuous setting of 1920s Madrid. Robert Pattinson plays Salvador Dali, Javier Beltran is Federico García Lorca, and Matthew McNulty takes the role of Luis Buñuel in this tale of art, lust and history. From the trailer it appears that there's an emphasis on the lust part, not so much on the actual art or history parts. Visually the film looks pretty cool, though, and it's an interesting topic for sure. To watch the trailer and let me know what you think,

OMG, Rob Pattinson is so good in this movie...he reminds of Johnny Depp for some reason. It was great to see a film about Salvador Dali...he is such an interesting engima.

well - i'll have to check this one out - for no other reason except that rob's in it. i don't think that the content would have lured me in otherwise - but this just seems like a great way to get an audience - get the vampire to come in and life will be good!

I DID like Marie Antoinette - I though it was fresh and I love Sofia's photography. As you said, it was her own take of the story. I just think that sometimes, and specially in historical movies that are based in real characters, omitting the actually language that this characters spoke is also omitting a big part of the culture of these people. Federico García Lorca was a poet - is it the same to read his poetry in Spanish than in English? I just wonder if sometimes it is for merely artistic reasons that they do the movies in English, or because it wouldn't be attractive to the English speaking public. It's like all these Hollywood remakes of films that aren't in English. The Last Kiss, No Reservations, Brothers... and I could go on and on. Why don't they distribute the original film, instead of then doing the Hollywood copy? All I'm saying is that there is a very big part of the English speaking public that is not used to read subtitles and, I think, that's why this movie was filmed in English - I know many of the actors in it and most of them their first language is not English.

I can't wait to see this movie. I love Dali and Bunuel.

I'll pass, doesn't look interesting to me. I loved Marie Antoinette and I didn't have a problem with the actors speaking in English. It was Sofia Coppola's own take on the story.

I'm very interested in this movie. Dali was fascinating later in his life and I think it will be interesting to see the beginnings of his career. Plus, I (heart) Rob Pattinson. Sad but true!

This looks like a very interesting film. Rob looked very much like Dali in that last shot. I also loved Marie Antoinette. Beautiful photography and I liked how Sophia showed a different take on the story. Kirsten Dunst with a french accent just wouldn't have worked to well; I preferred her own accent/voice.

This movie definately looks interesting. I don't know a whole lot about Dali but if Rob Pattinson is portraying him, count me in... I'm excited to see him do a meaty role like this.

Haha, that last look is actually pretty dead on Dali. Looks interesting...

"Francoisehardly, I LOVED Marie Antoinette because it wasn't the typical BBC type production. It was total eye candy." Definitely. I'm kind of getting off topic though, but for MA they even adjusted the choice of colors to be lighter than what would have worn during the time period. That's actually what I love about cinema. You can choose to be accurate or you could create whatever reality you want and even create a fantastical reality that could never be real. I wouldn't mind living within movies if I could. :)

Wow, great story to cover! I hope this movie is good and does justice to Dali's story

Francoisehardly, I LOVED Marie Antoinette because it wasn't the typical BBC type production. It was total eye candy. And quite moving at the end how they eventually learned to love each other deeply after years of being politely distant.

"That last intense look from Rob was a little weird..." If you mean the one where their picture taken, Dali did make that face in pictures so it wouldn't make any sense if he didn't do it in the movie at least not if it's supposed accurate. And about Marie Antoinette, Sophia's goal was to make the movie less uptight and stuffy than typical period dramas and it wasn't supposed to be in French plus she wanted to allow the actors to speak with whatever accent they happen to have. There was an older Marie Antoinette movie with Norma Shearer in it which was also in English. Biopics don't have to so accurate that it has to be the exact language the person spoke.

Dali is absolutely amazing, it's about time his story was told!

I liked the trailer. The topic is very interesting and the actors are good, though it's weird to hear them speaking in English with each other but then shouting stuff in Spanish. I think it will be the same like it happened to Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette: even though the movie was fine, it wasn't very realistic to hear the King and Queen of France speaking in English with each other. I will give it a try though, the story is worth it I think.

I think I'm more interested in this Robert Pattinson project than Twilight but it's kind of weird to look at with him with the "Dali" mustashe on his face.
