Taylor Swift's "Me!" Music Video Includes Quite a Few Nods to Iconic Movies

Apr 28 2019 - 11:30am

Taylor Swift [1] is getting even more clever when it comes to putting hidden references in her music videos [2]. While her most recent video for "Me!" with Panic! at the Disco singer [3] Brendon Urie includes quite a few Easter eggs about her upcoming seventh album [4], it also includes quite a few nods to famous films. The rainbow-filled number looks a lot like The Wizard of Oz, while the dancing scene between Swift and Urie reminded a lot of fans of Hairspray. See what other films Swift made reference to in the music video ahead!

Rear Window

As Swift walks down a hallway of windows, she sports a black-and-white dress similar to the one Grace Kelly wears in Rear Window.

Mary Poppins

Urie channels his inner Mary Poppins as he descends from the sky with a umbrella in hand. The image with people floating around behind him is also reminiscent of the "Step in Time" number with the chimney sweeps.

Moulin Rouge!

The scene were Swift sits on top of a unicorn building overlooking a gorgeous skyline feels a lot like the number "Elephant Love Medley" in Moulin Rouge! as Nicole Kidman [6] and Ewan McGregor [7] sing on top of a giant elephant statue.

Hairspray

As Swift and Urie "shake it off" in heart outfits, the whole scene felt incredibly reminiscent of the "You Can't Stop the Beat" number from Hairspray.

The Wizard of Oz

In one scene, Swift and Urie skip off to a magical rainbow in the distance, which seems to be a direct reference to the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz.

Singin' in the Rain

The scene where Swift and Urie get splashed with colorful paint looks a lot like Gene Kelly's famous number from Singin' in the Rain, right down the umbrella!
