The Hottest Movies From 10 Years Ago Are About to Make You Feel Old

Mar 4 2017 - 3:55pm

There's no easy way to say it: we're getting old. We're getting so old, in fact, that this list of movies turning 10 years old might bring a tear to your eye since it seems like you were sitting in the theater watching them just yesterday. From thrillers like Zodiac and No Country For Old Men and the offbeat comedies that put Michael Cera [1] in the spotlight, we've rounded up the films that are a decade old in 2017.

Zodiac

In this highly underrated crime thriller, Jake Gyllenhaal [5] plays a San Francisco cartoonist turned amateur detective who becomes obsessed with tracking down the elusive Zodiac Killer, who has been preying on innocent people in Northern California in the early 1970s. The creepiest thing about the movie is that the Zodiac Killer is real and has never been found.

Enchanted

Amy Adams [7] could not be more delightful in this Disney flick that follows a beautiful princess who is banished to New York City by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon) and falls in love with a handsome lawyer (Patrick Dempsey [8]), even though she's set to wed another handsome man back home. A fun update for fans: the movie is getting a sequel [9]!

Smokin' Aces

There are so many stars in this film, you'll have to do triple takes. Jeremy Piven is a sleazy magician who gets mixed up with the Vegas mob, while Ryan Reynolds [10] and Ray Liotta play the FBI agents who put him in protective custody from the handful of contract killers who have been hired to take him out (which include Alicia Keys [11], Taraji P. Henson, and Chris Pine [12]). Ben Affleck [13] is a bail bondsman, Jason Bateman [14] is a crooked lawyer, and rapper Common is a security guard. Oh, and Wayne Newton plays himself.

Knocked Up

We want to believe condom sales went up in the wake of this twisted romantic comedy, which follows the fallout of a drunken one-night stand between the career-minded Alison (Katherine Heigl [15]) and lovable stoner Ben (Seth Rogen [16]). The now-iconic comedy raked in $219 million worldwide.

Juno

Another fun movie about accidental pregnancy is the Oscar-winning Juno, which stars Ellen Page as a high school student who finds out she's having a baby by her nerdy best friend (Michael Cera [17]). It also stars Jennifer Garner [18] and Jason Bateman [19] as adoptive parents and has one hell of a soundtrack [20].

Across the Universe

In this trippy fantasy musical, Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood play star-crossed lovers in the 1960s. Set against a backdrop of the Vietnam War and fights for free speech and civil rights, the film features a ton of classic Beatles music from the time.

Transformers

Shia LaBeouf [21] and Megan Fox [22] star in this action flick about a war between the Autobots and Decepticons that comes to Earth.

Because I Said So

Diane Keaton [23] plays a well-meaning mom trying to set up her daughter (Mandy Moore [24]) with a good guy in order to prevent her from making the same relationship mistakes that she did.

Ratatouille

A rat who can cook links up with an aspiring chef in this Disney comedy set in Paris.

La Vie en Rose

Marion Cotillard took home a best actress Academy Award for her stunning portrayal of French singer Édith Piaf in this biographical musical. The film follows a series of key events in Piaf's life, from her childhood up to her death in 1963.

Stomp the Yard

A street dancer (Columbus Short) moves to Georgia for college after his brother dies, but his education gets sidetracked when he joins a fraternity and tries to help them win a step dancing competition.

Bee Movie

Jerry Seinfeld [25] voices Barry B. Benson, a bee who graduates from college and wants to do something other than making honey for a living. Once he finds out that humans eat honey, he decides to sue them.

Hairspray

Baltimore teenager Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) lands a spot on a local TV dance show in 1962 and shows the city the importance of integration. John Travolta [26] in drag is definitely one of the best things about this remake of the 1988 film, but Blonsky, Amanda Bynes [27], Queen Latifah [28], and Zac Efron [29] also bring the musical comedy to life.

Superbad

Jonah Hill [30] and Michael Cera [31] play codependent best friends trying to get to a party that will help them lose their virginity before graduating high school.

No Country For Old Men

Javier Bardem [32] is a terrifyingly evil killer with an even more terrifying haircut in this Oscar-winning neo-noir thriller.

The Simpsons Movie

The film follows the iconic TV family as they become fugitives after Homer accidentally pollutes Springfield's water supply and the town is covered by a giant dome by the EPA.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

John C. Reilly plays troubled musician Dewey Cox in this comedy, which follows his downward spiral and roller coaster rock 'n' roll career.

P.S. I Love You

A widow (Hilary Swank [33]) finds out that her late husband (Gerard Butler [34]) has left her a series of letters to help her cope with his death and start a new life.

The Mist

A storm hits a small town, unleashing a class of murderous creatures who wreak havoc on the residents.

Into the Wild

Based on a true story, this adventure drama stars Emile Hirsch [35] as a college graduate who gives his life savings to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live — you guessed it — in the wild.

30 Days of Night

Josh Hartnett [36] manages to still look hot as the sheriff of an Alaskan town being assailed by vampires during a very convenient month without daylight.

Blades of Glory

Will Ferrell [37] and Jon Heder play rival Olympic figure skaters who, after both being banned from the sport, find a way to get around it by competing as a team.

No Reservations

Catherine Zeta-Jones [38] stars as a top chef who suddenly becomes the guardian of her young niece (Abigail Breslin [39]). She becomes threatened by (and then attracted to) her restaurant's new sous chef, played by Aaron Eckhart [40].

Disturbia

Shia LaBeouf [41] was killing it with the blockbusters back in 2007. In this horror thriller, he plays a teen on house arrest that becomes convinced his neighbor is a serial killer.

300

This epic action fantasy follows King Leonidas of Sparta (Gerard Butler [42]) and a force of 300 men who fight the Persians in 480 BC.

Stardust

Charlie Cox, Claire Danes [43], Sienna Miller [44], and Ian McKellen star in this adventure flick about a secret passage between an English village in the 1800s and a fantasy kingdom called Stormhold.

Gone Baby Gone

Casey Affleck [45] and Michelle Monaghan play two Boston-area private detectives tasked with investigating the kidnapping of a little girl.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

This Tim Burton-directed horror musical stars Johnny Depp [46] and Helena Bonham Carter as a barber and shop owner who embark on a crime rampage in 1840s London.

I Know Who Killed Me

Lindsay Lohan [47] stars as a young woman found unconscious in the woods with no memory of who she is. She adopts the personality of a character created in her high school English assignments and has to figure out what happened to her and why the two coexist.

I Am Legend

Will Smith [48] stars as the only survivor of a plague that has killed people and turned them into monsters.

Atonement

A young aspiring writer accuses her older sister's lover of a crime he didn't commit, changing the course of several lives over time.

There Will Be Blood

Daniel Day-Lewis stars as a 20th-century oilman who does whatever it takes to get what he wants, like milkshakes.
