Music Video: Alanis Morissette, "My Humps"

Music Video: Alanis Morissette, "My Humps"

For all these years that Alanis Morissette has been working the fiesty pop star thing, she may have been missing her true calling — as the female Weird Al Yankovich. Now, I normally find Alanis pretty annoying, but I think Fergie is infinitely more annoying, and that is why I love this music video for Alanis's cover of "My Humps."

By turning the horrendous Black Eyed Peas hit into an earnest, forlorn ballad, Morissette highlights just how laughable these song lyrics really are. Her down-tempo version would be funny on its own, but with the melodramatic, ghetto-fabulous visuals, it's pretty brilliant. To watch,

I think it is a funny paraody. I really like the part in the video when she's crying and when she's beating up those guys!!! I thought it was funny. I really liked te fergie version and my boyfriend was always making fun of it. Fergie's lyrics really don't make any sense. LIke in her new song "like a child misses their blanket"...what?? and she does a whole song about remembering when she was poor and trying to make it and then goes "if you ain't got no money take your broke ... home!" what sense does that make?

Um...Do u ppl think Fergie really wrote the lyrics to this song? It was a BEP song, so Will.I.Am, Taboo an probably wrote most alot of it 2! This 'cover' is a lame attempt at getting attention... I'm sure she (Alanis) could put her creative talents to better use, than ripping off songs that are so 2005... Maybe it'd be funny if she did it 2 yrs ago... When the song released an still on the charts... Plus Alanis's voice is annoying as heck! ... Damn!

I love this! I think it's hilarious how she highlights the ridiculous absurdity of Fergie's song. The lyrics don't make any sense! Plus, I think they're insulting to women in what they imply. That we're willing to use our bodies to get 'icies?' By slowing it down I think Alanis makes you really listen to what she's saying, when it's uptempo it's too easy to enjoy the beat and not realize how disgusting the message is.

Dear All, BBBBBBAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! I love it!!! Oh Alanis....you make me proud to be a Canadian:). 1. Alanis looks good, her dancing is hilarious, and I love the part where she is fake crying 2. The backup men in the video had me in stitches 3. If there was not a video for this song, and I had heard Alanis sing this on the radio, I would have believed it was a genuine song of hers...LOL cheers, Jen (8) My...hump...my...hump....

That is pretty imaginative if you ask me, who would think to slow the song down that much, ever?

i think this song is so beautiful the way she did it, it's just so discordant with the lyrics, and that's what makes it actually meaningful in a way. showing how beauty and artistry has lost out to a world of materialism and marketing. fergie is a perfect example of how someone can be marketed to success. if you look at her and you listen to her music, you would never in a million years think she could be successful. thanks alanis!

I must disagree, Jam. I doubt Alanis is jealous of Fergie. Alanis may have already had her heyday and may be past her prime, but at least she's creative. Fergie is nothing more than a pants-peeing, abs-bearing poster girl for bad plastic surgery and nonsensical pop songs. I'm not even an Alanis fan, but seriously. Jealous of FERGIE? :rotfl:

I thought this was too funny and I had never even heard the Fergie song...I really cannot believe that Fergie recorded those words in the first place so the joke is really on her big time. I can't say I am an Alanis fan, but she looked great in the mock video.

Alanis only wishes she had Fergie's career. She is a pathetic jealous woman. She wants "privacy" for her engagement, and no one cares!! Fergie never took this serioiusly to begin with. Alanis has no career and she is pathetic and jealous.

I applaud the effort, but Alanis' voice makes me want to stab at my eardrums with rusty forks.

I love that she did this video, since you know that it was totally joke that got out of hand, but I'm totally weirded out by how much she looks like Jennifer Love Hewitt with the fake bangs.

Bravo Alanis! A nice jab at how truly uninspired a lot of the music has become nowadays. Definitely made me laugh.
