Robert Downey Jr. hands down. Yes Heath's performance was wonderful but after watching Tropic Thunder over and over a couple of times I STILL couldn't believe that was Robert Downey Jr. He completely transformed himself and was just SO FUNNY.

If it were any other award, I would say no to Heath but he did a great job with the lunacy. I also loved Robert Downey Jr. He did a wonderful job as well.

Heath will win. And he deserves it.

I haven't seen Milk yet, but from the others I'd say Robert Downey Jr. is the best. Michael Shannon is pretty great too.

i feel like even if heath hadn't passed away he'd still be the favorite for this role. he's really amazing in it, and it's a take on the character that we've never seen before.

Heath was great, there's no denying it, but I don't think he was the greatest in this category. I kinda wish that Milk and Tropic Thunder could have come out in different years so Josh Brolin and RDJ (and maybe the others too) could have had a chance. If he were alive I think he still would have been nominated, but he probably wouldn't win. And I also think people wouldn't be so upset that The Dark Knight didn't get a Best Picture nomination. I don't even think it would have made so much money either.

Oh please, the guy died and suddenly everybody wants to give him an oscar. I know, I know, he was great - but so were the others, and a lot of you aren't even considering that because you want to honor a guy who's so dead he's not going to know whether he won, lost, or was even nominated. Robert Downey Jr and Michael Shannon deserve oscars too - and they still have careers that it can help.

Heath, without a doubt

I liked Heath's performance; I honestly did. I just don't think he should win (for a couple reasons), and though I definitely don't believe in giving him a feel-good Oscar (like a "lifetime achievement" award, for lack of a better term, or something similar), I also don't think it's fair to ask Brolin, Philip Seymour Hoffman, RDJ, and Michael Shannon to compete with sentimentality. It's honestly beside the point whose performance was the best, because I don't think any of those men want to win an Oscar and "steal it from the dead guy," which is inevitably what it would turn into.

Heath is an amazing actor. His portrayal was phenomenal.

i'm a big fan of heath ledger and of batman; but sometimes i think that all these awards are been given to him because of sympathy. He is a phenomenal actor, and he will be remembered but is hollywood been hypocrite or real?

OMG, if Heath was still alive would he be still getting these awards? I think it's bull that he's being recognized just because of his death. He did much greater things than The Batman in his career. These are sympathetic awards. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Heath. Not because he died, but because that was an amazing performance and he deserves recognition for that

I'm going with Heath, as most people do, but I think Michael Shannon was great in Revolutionary Road.

I watched Dark Knight again last night and Heath Ledger is phenomenal! If he hadn't died, he would still deserve it!
