It's been months since the midseason finale of Pretty Little Liars [1], which feels especially long, because we usually have a Halloween [2] episode to tide us over. But have no fear, the Christmas episode is finally here! While we're still doubting the evidence [3] from Mona's unfortunate demise in the Summer finale, we have a lot to look forward to in the first-ever Christmas special. We've drawn our own conclusions from all of the stills from the episode [4], but we've also pieced together other fun facts from tweets, interviews, and more. Keep reading to prepare yourself for a devastating Christmas and a not-so-happy New Year.
We're Going to Flash Back to Mona's Murder
We've heard that Mona's going to play a "Ghost of Christmas Past" à la It's a Wonderful Life, but that's not all. Just after Mona's tragic death, Zap2It interviewed Janel Parrish [5], who said that the Christmas episode will take us back to Mona's murder: "You will see a little bit more of what happened, yes. I will say that she went down with a fight, which is great. I love that fight in her, I wouldn't have wanted her to go out any other way."
There's a Chance Alison Has Returned to Her Old, Evil Self
Yet another mysterious, puzzling tweet from King [6] said, "Hark the herald angels sing. Glory to the newborn queen. #MajorPllHolidayClue." Is Alison the newborn queen of mean? Or Is King referring to something else? Whatever it is, we're sure the clue will make more sense after the episode airs.
We Should Expect High Stakes, Tension, and Danger
King posted another riddle on her Twitter account [7], which said, "Let it snow let it snow. There's nowhere to go. Family is far. But friends are near. Table for eight my dear. #PLLChristmas." Are the liars going to get snowed in? Nothing would be more scary than being trapped in a house with "A." One thing's for sure: sounds like things are going to get dicey, and girls won't have much help.
The Dinner Scene Will Be a Lot to Handle
In addition to her veiled warnings about the "table for eight," King admitted in a separate tweet [8] that she's seen the episode 20 times, and the dinner scene still makes her cry and laugh.
There's a Pretty Good Chance of Seeing CeCe at Some Point
Although a CeCe appearance hasn't been confirmed outright, the actress who plays her may as well have. In July, while King was tweeting hints about the episode, Vanessa Ray chimed in with a tweet [9] reading, "Hey @imarleneking you're just absolutely EVERYTHING! #costumechangesfordays
An Old, Terrifying Face Will Return
Remember that terrifying zombie baby mask from the very first Halloween [10] episode? In an interview with MTV [11], King hinted that we haven't seen the last of it.
There Will Be Romance
Jonell Lennon, one of the show's writers, tweeted a fun tidbit [12]: "Ok, new spoiler, in the Xmas special: There's a mistletoe. There's a kiss. It's romantic."
There Will Also Be Multiple Pairs of Santa Boxers
In addition to her cryptic tweet [13] about the high chances of Santa boxers, King also clarified in another tweet [14] that we'd be seeing multiple pairs. Crossing our fingers for shirtless [15] PLL hunks, to be frank.
