Recap of The Bachelorette With Video of Frank Telling Ali About His Ex

Bachelorette Breakdown: Frank Is Finally Frank About Ex

This week on The Bachelorette, we traveled to beautiful Tahiti for overnight dates and a trip to the fantasy suite. But things got ugly when Frank made the trip all the way to the isolated islands just to tell Ali that he takes back all his feelings and plans to get back with his ex in Chicago. So now we're down to two: Roberto and Chris L. We — Buzz and Très — have been rehashing the events all morning, so read our chat and add your input in the comments.

  • BuzzSugar: First off, let's talk Frank. Why didn't we have any inkling about his feelings for his ex sooner? Did he just get cold feet with Ali as the final rose ceremony got closer? Or maybe he just wanted to be on TV, so that's why he went on the show in the first place; although, he doesn't really strike me as the fame type (he's no Jake). What did you think about him dropping the bomb on Ali?
  • TrèsSugar: I found Frank very meh this whole time, but I think his honesty made him slightly likable last night — he got giddy when he talked about Nicole. Maybe moving fast toward marriage with a complete stranger made him feel more strongly about someone he had a past with. Now, I'm not sure how that relationship will work out once Nicole watches Frank cry on TV for Ali. Moving onto Roberto: for all the sweating he did, you would have thought he was the one who had a secret. What did you make of Ali's overnight dates?

For more of our thoughts, and to watch video of Frank breaking the news to Ali, keep reading.

  • Buzz: I felt like the producers were totally setting up Ali and the guys by making them walk waist-deep through the water to get to their suite. Of course, they're going to have to strip down — their clothes are soaking wet! But Ali taking off Roberto's shirt was actually kind of tame in my opinion, even though I did feel a little voyeuristic for watching it. Oh, but the "L" word! What was it that Chris L. said, "God, I love you so much"? He's a total sucker for Ali.
  • Très: Yeah, I thought that walk through water so I have to take my pants off trick was a good move! Chris L. seems great, but last night made me question his kissing abilities. I had to turn away, and so did Ali in a few shots, every time he moved his overeager mouth toward her. Not pretty. So do you think this thing will end with a proposal? Roberto and Chris L. are the best of the bunch, but I'm not quite sure Ali knows them well enough to get engaged. On the dates, or at least in the clips we see, they don't seem to talk about anything substantive. You have to talk about more than the weather and scenery in a marriage.
  • Buzz: Totally agree. I feel like both couples are very much in the infatuation phase right now, where it doesn't matter what they talk about, as long as they get to make out! I wouldn't be surprised if the show doesn't end with a proposal and instead, Ali decides to just date whichever guy she chooses for a while — without the cameras around. That seems like the most sensible thing. Then again, it is reality TV, so anything halfway logical goes out the window.
  • Très: Time to place bets! Who's going to win? I vote Roberto!
  • Buzz: Me too! Even though Chris L. made definite progress this week, Ali is full-on smitten with Roberto. Chris L. just can't compete.

at least frank did tell her the truth, but he's annoyed me all season with this whiny crap.

you know, i had a boyfriend that i CONSTANTLY had to reassure. he was always jealous of other guys and in the end he ended up cheating on me. not that frank physically cheated on ali, but she wasted so much freakin time on him and now she's wondering if something was wrong with HER. that really pisses me off! haha...i think its funny that a reality show pisses me off!! :) i think she'd already picked frank and now that he's gone, she won't pick anyone. like skigurl said, why can't she just DATE someone?? clearly she has some chemistry with these guys. maybe its not enough for marriage, but whats the rush?? that's why none of these TV couples work in real life.

This show is taped within a 6 week period. I can understand Frank getting a little freaked out about having to propose to someone he's only known for 6 weeks, and hadn't even spent a whole day with. And then not knowing if she was going to except your proposal or another guy? I'm surprised more people don't freak out like Frank did the entire season. I'd be a little upset to if my bf was a whore and dating 20 girls at once.

There are rumors that Frank actually didn't want to go to Tahiti, but the producers made him go to confront Ali. But really who knows which of these rumors are true. Anyway, like what @jultriz said above, I actually thought the part with Ali questioning if something was wrong with her was one of the most real moments on this show. I know I have definitely had the conversation with myself and I just wanted to give her a big girlfriend hug at that point.

Go Frank. I didn't like him before but for him to step up and be a man about his feelings - I can really respect that. It seriously irritates me that people are giving him a hard time about it. Heaven forbid one our of the 24 guys that have chosen to be on show doesn't end up liking her. I think it's one of the realest moments I've seen on these shows. Because that's life. And come on, she hasn't even made up her mind - and he has. That says something.

Also, my heart did break for her when she started talking about how Frank's decision made her doubt herself and wondered if something were wrong with her. I think we all have those thoughts during heartbreak. I related to that!

This is a thought I have had about almost every season...especially the ones where they don't pick anyone...why can't they just choose a person and then try a regular relationship? She obviously likes both guys. Maybe she isn't ready to get engaged or married to either, or even move in with either...but why can't she say "okay I choose ___x____ and I would like to casually date you!"? Pretty much every couple breaks up because there's lots of pressure put on things, but since she obviously enjoys both guys, why can't it just go on in a casual sense?!?! If reality steve is right, and she doesn't choose either, I just find it weird that she was screwing both, laughing with both, and talking up both, when she didn't like either enough to date them. PS: not sure I agree with reality steve though, as I read an article where she said herself she's engaged.

Frank seems to lack emotional maturity and self-knowledge. I bet he makes a lot of mistakes that he later regrets - maybe this will be one of them, maybe not. I was never a huge fan of his, either. Ali had to spend WAY too much of her time and energy reassuring him. What kind of a relationship does that make for? I hope she stays single.

I have a feeling that she was going to pick Frank and already has her mind made up about him. She seemed really crazy about him. And now that he's gone, I don't think she'll pick anyone. :(

ABC can afford some kayaks or a paddleboat at least — those wading-through-water-over-and-over scenes totally bugged.

I have a major crush on Chris. He seems like such a great guy. Watching Frank come clean was really hard to watch. It just seemed so drawn out. Personally think hes a coward though. From about week 2 or 3 he was clearly coming undone and seemed more of an emotional wreck every week. I think he was conflicted very early on and the fact that he stayed on till now (assuming he wasnt made to stay by the producers) just makes me think hes such a coward. Why wait till the last minute to do that. And when he said ish about how as he fell in love with Ali his feelings for his ex also deepened I wanted to slap him. AND, as skigurl said, he went to his ex first! What was that about ? I feel like she wont choose anyone in the end. The Roberto thing seems too shallow for marriage and shes clearly nuts because she doesnt appear to be in love with Chris

I've been pulling for Roberto since day 1 but according to Reality Steve, Ali didn't pick either of them and she's still single. We'll see...

I think the producers forced Frank to keep his mouth shut until now, and so in that way, I don't think he was the jerk so much as the producers kinda sabotaged Ali's feelings. Watching those scenes was like watching a trainwreck, and I wasn't a big fan of it. The only thing that makes me angry about Frank is that he went to Nicole FIRST to see what she would say and if she'd take him back, THEN he told Ali. What if Nicole said NO DEAL BUD...would he have just kept competing for Ali's heart? Anyway I think she does get engaged in the end, but I have no clue to whom! I like Chris L. more, but I waver over who she will choose. Although, you're right, she's always loved Roberto so much! Anyway, I found Chris L. so genuine and adorable this episode. When Frank dropped the bomb, I thought she should have taken the fantasy suite card, called Chris L., and enjoyed a second night!
