15 Elite Series That Rival the High-Society Drama of Gossip Girl

We'll admit it: there's no show that can replace the insane drama and incredible fashion of Gossip Girl. The CW drama premiered nearly 14 years ago and ended back in 2012, and though we can still stream it all on HBO Max, there's only so many times we can rewatch all six seasons. Luckily, the HBO Max Gossip Girl reboot is here to fill the void left by the original series. But if you're looking for more shows about prep schools, blue-blood rivalries, and teenage drama, then check out the gallery for 15 shows that even Blair Waldorf would deem acceptable alternatives.

Riverdale

Riverdale

Just like Gossip Girl, which is based on the YA book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, this CW series is far removed from its original source material and deliciously dark. Riverdale follows the lives, romances, and deceptions of Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead from the Archie Comics, enticing its viewers with unrealistically beautiful teens, incredible clothes, and major doses of drama.

NYC Prep

NYC Prep

Though tragically short-lived, this Bravo reality series offered an insider's look into the lives of the real Manhattan elite. The show tracked the daily routines of six prep school teens as they navigated charity events, shopping trips, dinner parties, and house parties, and unlike the Gossip Girl cast, this cast is made up of real teenagers rather than 20-something actors.

Privileged

Privileged

Another show that ended too soon, this show revolves around an ambitious Yale grad (played by JoAnna Garcia) who finds herself playing tutor to two spoiled twins (played by Lucy Hale and Ashley Newbrough), who also happen to be heiresses to an enormous cosmetics dynasty. Just like Gossip Girl, this CW series is based on a YA novel — How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls by Zoey Dean — but rather than Manhattan, Privileged introduces the elite world of Palm Beach, FL.

The O.C.

The O.C.

Before Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen, the original dynamic duo was Marissa Cooper and Summer Roberts from The O.C., a show that pits insiders against outsiders in the high-class world of Newport Beach, CA. Seth Cohen is also like a less vindictive version of Dan Humphrey, and unlike Dan and Blair, we totally support the IRL relationship between Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, who married in 2014.

Legacies

Legacies

This spinoff of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals centers around 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson as she attends Salvatore School For the Young and Gifted, where young witches, vampires, and werewolves learn to overcome villainous impulses. Though Gossip Girl doesn't involve any witches (just some characters who you could call a word that rhymes with witches. . .), Salvatore will definitely remind you of the enviable and endlessly preppy Constance Billard School for Girls.

Elite

Elite

In this Netflix crime drama, three working-class teens displaced by an earthquake are enrolled in the most exclusive school in Spain, and the clash between the classes erupts into a battle that eventually turns fatal. It's like the battle between Jenny Humphrey and Blair Waldorf, but even more dramatic (if that's possible).

07
Dynasty

Dynasty

This reboot of the primetime '80s soap of the same name revolves around two rival families in Atlanta, the Carringtons and the Colbys, and the tension between heiress Fallon Carrington and her billionaire father's new wife, Cristal Flores, whom she doesn't trust. If you love the blue blood battles of Gossip Girl, you'll love this CW series just as much.

90210

The CW reboot of the original Aaron Spelling-created series, Beverly Hills, 90210 — which ran for 10 seasons in the '90s — still revolves around the relationships and alliances between a tight-knit group of privileged teens attending West Beverly Hills High School, though the remake offers an edgier twist. The lives and wardrobes of West Coast teens and East Coast teens may be totally different, but you'll find that the drama is still pretty much the same.

09
Pretty Little Liars
Everett Collection

Pretty Little Liars

Rather than being stalked by a mysterious gossip blogger who wants to spill their secrets and exploit their lives, the teens on Pretty Little Liars have a stalker with far more malicious intentions. With even more convoluted conspiracies and dramatic reveals than Gossip Girl, PLL and its well-dressed, unfairly hot cast will make any Upper East Side fan feel at home.

10
Reign

Reign

Instead of high school royalty, this series is centered on actually royalty, following the fictitious and scandalous exploits of Mary, Queen of Scots, who's played by Teen Wolf's Adelaide Kane. If you think Queen Bee Blair Waldorf is powerful, just wait until you see Mary and her ladies-in-waiting in action.

Blood & Water

Blood & Water

This Netflix original series from South Africa revolves around Puleng, a crafty 16-year-old on a mission to find her older sister who was abducted at birth. After following a lead that points her to an elite college, Puleng transfers to the academy in order to investigate whether or not the school's swimming star is actually her sister. While the coastal wealth of Cape Town is very different from the world of Manhattan, Parkhurst College will still give you major Constance Billard vibes.

12
Outer Banks

Outer Banks

If you loved the tension between the haves and the have-nots on Gossip Girl, then you'll love Outer Banks. Set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the Netflix drama revolves around John B and his loyal crew of Pogues as they clash with the wealthy Kooks from the other side of the marsh. And while John B couldn't be more different from Dan Humphrey, his romance with Sarah will definitely remind you of Dan's relationship with Serena.

13
Bridgerton

Bridgerton

Gossip Girl walked so that Bridgerton's Lady Whistledown could run. Inspired by Julia Quinn's bestselling novels, Shonda Rhimes's first original series for Netflix takes place during England's early 1800s Regency period. The series mainly follows the love affairs between a group of high-society members and also features an anonymous gossip columnist who narrates the story. Bridgerton has a penchant for petty drama, high fashion, and lots of steamy scenes, making it the perfect binge for Gossip Girl fans. Also, just try to tell us the duke doesn't remind you of Chuck Bass.

Katy Keene
Everett Collection

Katy Keene

This Riverdale spinoff follows aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene as she navigates life in Manhattan alongside new friends and enemies alike. Unlike Riverdale, the series is focused less on murder and cults and more on fashion and romance. The dynamic between Katy and her on-and-off-again boyfriend KO is sure to remind you of the tumultuous dynamic between Blair and Nate.

The Bold Type

The Bold Type

Similar to Katy Keene, this series also revolves around glamorous 20-somethings working in the Manhattan fashion industry as employees at Scarlet, a Cosmopolitan-esque publication. While the friendship between Jane, Kat, and Sutton is far less fraught than the friendship between Blair and Serena, there's still plenty of drama to dive into. You may also recognize Sutton from Gossip Girl, as actress Meghann Fahy played the small part of Devyn on the series.
