Because of the way her name is spelled, I initially thought that Jesse Sykes of Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter was a dude. Hearing her voice — which falls somewhere between Patti Smith and goth-rocker Johnny Indovina of Human Drama — didn't help my confusion. But after several listens to this track "LLL," I'm getting addicted to the way her richly textured tones bounce off the Simon & Garfunkel guitars. The song appears on Sykes' new album, Like, Love, Lust & the Open Halls of the Soul, which comes out Feb. 6. To hear the track,

Wow, so different. I wish I knew more about music so I could more accurately describe what it reminded me of. It had a very 70s vibe to me, which I absolutely loved!
