Stephenie Meyer to Release Eclipse Novella Called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner 2010-03-30 10:00:05

Stephenie Meyer to Release New Twilight Saga Novella

Get ready to storm Barnes & Noble, Twi-hards: there's a brand-new book (sorry, novella) from Stephenie Meyer just around the corner. The best-selling author will release The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella on June 5, just in time for the release of the saga's third movie. If you're racking your brain trying to remember who this alleged Bree Tanner is, you're not alone — she's one of the newborn vampires who only gets 10 pages of attention in Eclipse before meeting her demise.

The whole idea seems a bit random to me, especially since our beloved heroes Edward and Bella probably won't be largely featured in the 192-page book. Apparently even Meyer hadn't been planning on it, saying,

I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella. When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.

Truth be told, I'll probably end up borrowing it from one of my friends at one point, but I don't see myself rushing out to get my hands on a copy of this little book. I'm sure it'll still be a huge money maker for Meyer though — are you excited about a new mini addition to the saga?

I can't understand it. We all want Midnight sun, obviously it's gonna be a huge success, though it can't be filmed since we already have Twilight. so please, please, Stephenie, finish it, please

I'm still waiting for Midnight Sun, but I WILL rush out to buy it because I like Stephenie's writing :)

I am a big fan of her writing, but I won't be running out to buy this new book either. If it is part of the Twilight Saga, it has to have Edward or at the very least Bella as main characters. What happened to Midnight Sun or The Twilight Guide. I have a hard time believing that Midnight Sun isn't already finished, I want to see it published more than any other book. Her fans have been begging her to publish it for such a long time. She also said she is going to write more books related to The Host, I like The Host even more than Twilight. But, I like what she put out there for Midnight Sun more than any of her books. I think I would be up for reading more of the Twilight Saga books from Edward's point of view.

I will read it because while reading and rereading Eclipse i want to know more of how Bree comes to be and what Victoria was doing behind the Edward/Bella/Jacob scenes. Perhaps this will delve into the whole Newborn army peeps!! Plus I'm also looking forward to Midnight Sun and hope she doesn't release it before its time, like a fine wine( sweet)

Myeh. I read the series, found it mildly annoying. Although, maybe a story with less of whiny Bella and controlling Edward would be better?

It's nice that she decided to do another story set in the Twilight universe but I would rather read about Edward, Bella, and Jacob. I thought she was continuing on The Host series too. She's a very busy lady!

Totally agree with what was said above. As a fan of the series, I'm annoyed that this is being finished and released before Midnight Sun. Come on already, Steph!

correction, Midnight Sun (Edward's perspective).. Sorry about that

I think it's great that she's doing it, although I agree with you Buzz, I won't be running to go to BN and buy it. But just a thought, wouldn't it be more logical for S. Meyer to finish Forever Dawn?? I think a lot more twi-hards (like myself) would prefer Edward's perspective far more than a short lived minor character from Eclipse.
