TV Shows You Want Your Friends to Watch

What TV Show Are You Trying to Convert Your Friends To?

As something of a TV connoisseur, I often take it upon myself to recommend new shows to my friends and family, depending on their individual tastes. I have one friend I currently am trying to sell on Cougar Town, while I know my mom would love Mad Men and have been trying to convince her to start watching it for the past two seasons.

There are certain programs, though, that I really take on as a pet project when I just know someone would end up being a huge fan. That show for me right now is Glee, and my latest exhibit in its greatness is last week's episode, "Bad Reputation," which will continue to reside on my DVR until my target friend comes over to watch it (and fall deeply in love with it, obviously). It's got all the things about Glee that I enjoy — campiness, great lines, fantastic musical numbers — that I know this friend won't be able to resist. How about you; are there any shows you're trying to turn your friends on to?

I tried to get everyone in my (nerdy) family to watch Supernatural (that was when it's ratings were low) but now it seems like people are realizing how great it is. Chuck of course cause it's my fav show. I don't want it cancelled so I try to open people to how fraking amazing it is. Almost my whole family likes it now. And I got my sister an aunt to watch The Power of Madonna episode of Glee cause I knew they were big Madge fans. my sister liked it and now my aunt is a secret Gleek, she'll never cop to it but she always finds her way into the living room when I'm watching it.

I've been trying to get my bf to watch glee, community, 30 rock, and arrested development. I've recently succeeded in turning him on to twilight and almost done with glee. We're definetely on a slow, baby steps pace but i'll get there!

Glee, because I'm so embarrassed I like it I am trying to get others onto the addiction as well. I know, I'm an awful person.

FNL!! I keep trying to get my mom to watch it because I know she would love it...maybe this summer. Vampire Diaries too! It is seriously so awesome and everyone just laughs at me when I try to get them to watch. I'm only in high school, but some of my friends are such TV snobs and think the whole vampire thing is dumb. That's not even why it's so great, though. I used to try to get people to watch Lost -- a few of my friends actually started to watch and still watch -- but I gave up on everyone else.

Party Down! I just recently found it, and while its not your typical comedy I still found myself attached to the characters and quite entertained plus Adam Scott is awesome/hot! Agree about Modern Family! SO funny. I havent been disappointed by it yet! Arrested Development and Flight of the Conchords. I've gotten quite a few friends to enjoy these comedies, but they both take a little coercion and patience if you dont take to the charcters right away. Totally worth it though!

Lately I've been getting all of my friends to watch Vampire Diaries and Cougar Town. So much harder since we're all in college, but with school over they can catch up by watching 20 episodes straight. VD because Damon is amazing eye candy and CT because it just gets funnier and funnier every episode. Me on the other hand, I watch almost everything so I just tell my friends to watch these because it's still early (1st season) as opposed to Big Bang Theory which is on its 3rd (although I love it!)

I absolutely adore HIMYM - I own all 4 seasons on DVD - but you're right, you need to have watched all of it to truly appreciate the inside jokes. For instance, I was trying to explain why it's so funny that the song "Murder Train" plays whenever anyone is getting in a fight. I mean, it's a hilarious song! But then you've got to explain that James van der Beek was Robin's boyfriend in Canada and he was in a band...blah blah. It loses it's funniness with all the explaining. So I've given up trying to sway people to that camp. The real show I advocate for is Sons of Anarchy. It's my sister and I's favorite show, hands down. And we have gotten a lot of people to watch it!

Definitely FNL and Bones for me. And Mad Men - I talk it up constantly.

Weffie, I was Joan for Halloween in 2007 and I found that so many more people "got" the costume when I was with my group of friends. Without them, I looked like someone with bizarrely dyed red hair (I used the spray dye that washes out) and an affinity for vintage clothes. This was before the show was as popular as it is now, so I'm sure that played into the lack of recognition concerning my costume, but still, being with the group definitely made a difference!

I wish my friends watched Mad Men, mainly because I really want to be Joan for Halloween and it would be way better if I could recruit some more character costumes from my group :)

Also, Deidre, I completely agree about watching HIMYM from the beginning. I mean, would this year's Thanksgiving episode had made any sense if you didn't know what a slap bet was?

I've recently turned my mom on to Bones and Mad Men. I'm trying to get her to watch Life Unexpected next. She's the main person I talk to about tv shows (we talk on the phone every day). So, I try to get her to watch most of the things I watch.

None of my real life friends really watch a lot of TV. I do try to get people to watch Community and Vampire Diaries though. All together I watch about 28 shows that air right now!

I am pretty sure that FOX should write me a commission check for getting people on to Glee... even guy friends love it. @khameel I agree... Vampire Diaries is the best. It does sound dumb at first but it is so amazing and satisfying! I wish everyone in the world no matter what the age would watch Friday Night Lights. It is incredible and the perfect combination of everything!
