Here's the Cast of True Detective's Mysterious Third Season

Almost everyone can agree that the second season of True Detective was a bust. With such a successful first season and a disappointing follow-up, all eyes have now turned to season three. This time around, Nic Pizzolatto will serve as writer and showrunner, and we already have a pretty enticing plot: we'll follow "a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods." With a great creative team and a solid story, the third time might just be the charm for the floundering series. To add even more confidence to this installment, True Detective has complied a pretty star-studded cast. Check out everyone who's already signed on to brave the latest deadly conundrum.

Mamie Gummer as Lucy Purcell

Mamie Gummer, daughter of Meryl Streep, is the latest addition to the cast. Gummer's character Lucy is "a young mother of two at the center of a tragic crime."

Stephen Dorff as Roland West

Dorff joins as an Arkansas State investigator named Roland who is partners with Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali). When it comes to his journey, Roland's "life and career [are] influenced over three decades by a baffling crime."

Mahershala Ali as Wayne Hays

Ali was the first star to join the cast of the third season. He's playing Wayne Hays, a detective from northwestern Arkansas.

Carmen Ejogo as Amelia Reardon

Ejogo joined in late 2017 as Amelia, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.

Scoot McNairy as Tom

Back in January, HBO added McNairy to the cast as Tom, "a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years."
