Usually it's the VMA show that's controversial, not just the nominations. But after MTV announced this year's VMA nominees [1], a firestorm of controversy was set off surrounding the video of the year category. After Nicki Minaj criticized the selection of nominees [2] in the category, nominee Taylor Swift [3] felt targeted and responded, only to later apologize [4]. Even fellow nominees Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars (jokingly) got in on the feud [5]!
