Philosophical question: if two actors are hilarious together on screen, will they work in any movie? Maybe, if it's Paul Rudd and Steve Carell, previous costars in The 40 Year Old Virgin and Anchorman. The setup for Dinner For Schmucks is not exactly scintillating (or explained well in the trailer): in order to get a promotion, Tim (Rudd) has to attend one of his boss's dinners, where the goal is to bring and humiliate a guest. Enter Barry (Carell), the schmuck Tim crosses paths with and invites to said dinner. Got that?
Granted, it's a remake of the French film Le Diner de Cons, but I'm not sold on the story. What I am fully behind is the pairing of Carell and Rudd, who have great chemistry in their respective goof and straight-man roles. I'm already laughing at the jokes in the preview (and naturally, hot comedy commodity Zach Galifianakis appears too), but I'm hoping the premise is equally as funny in execution.
