What Band Should Star in the New Rock 'n' Roll High School?

What Band Should Star in the New Rock 'n' Roll High School?

In the 1979 film Rock 'n' Roll High School, the Ramones help a bunch of "rebellious students" thwart their "repressive, rock-music-hating principal." Now there's a remake coming, courtesy of none other than "shockjock" Howard Stern. Stern's other current movie project is an updated version of the raunchy 1982 comedy Porky's which, honestly, seems to make more sense for him than Rock 'n' Roll High School.

There aren't many details on the project yet, though we do know that Alex Winter, who played Bill to Keanu's Ted in their excellent adventures, will write the script.

Who do you think could replace the Ramones as the hip rock band that helps the kids? Brainstorm below.

I don't think it should be remade, but don't pick a sucky band please. I wouldn't mind The Strokes or any band who doesn't make what I might call mallrat "punk", and I'm using the term punk loosely. I don't know if I imagine the White Stripes doing it, but they do fall under my non-sucky band list.

I can't imagine anybody but the Ramones doing this.

oh my gosh, this movie will be TERRIBLE if they choose someone like fall out boy, or panic at the disco, or good charlotte! yuck! i agree with someone like the strokes, i could tolerate but wouldnt love greenday, i agree with the white stripes!! oh what about weezer?? i think they would be fun to see! or something like foo fighters or the killers or something. i dont know, i need to think more about this one... oh my gosh, i agree: i would not be surprised if disney bought this, and did a jonas brothers thing. that would be disguisting. itd be cool if they had an indie group like the shins, or wilco or the kinks or something.

I hope whoever it is doesn't suck. I seriously adore Alex Winter. Kaiser Chiefs would be fun. They could sing I Predict a Riot.

I'm not a Green Day fan, but I agree that it's a good idea. They've been around a long time and are fairly legendary, not like those cheesy flash-in-the-pan "punk" bands like Good Charlotte, Fall-Out Boy, etc.

green day? blech no! i vote for the strokes, although theyre not well known enough to actually be chosen for something like this. and i'd bet anyone 5 bucks disney'll buy rights to this and will turn it into a jonas brother bonanza.

I can't even think of a good band today that would fill the role well. Why is hollywood remaking all these classic movies lately? RHPS and Rock and Roll Highschool. I know there must be tons of great scripts floating around, why remake movies that are cult classics?

Yup, Green Day.

Ugh, it's going to be one of those horribly cheesy pop-punk bands, like Fall-Out Boy or Good Charlotte. Especially because Guyliner Wentz and those Madden boys are famous due to who they're boinking :oy: I think remaking this movie is a bad, bad idea. I can't think of a single current band that wouldn't suck. Or, rather, the ones I can think of would never be chosen because they're not popular enough to bring the tween and teen viewers. Maybe a few years ago they could've gotten the Strokes or the Vines or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or any number of the "the" bands. But I think they're all pretty much past their prime now.

I absolutely love this movie. I really don't think they should remake it, but I hope Fall Out Boy doesn't do it because I seriously hate them. I actually wouldn't mind Sum 41 or maybe they could get The Filthy Youth, love them. But once again remaking this is risky and it better be good!

Wow, that's a tough one. I can't think of any band that has the sort of unmistakable image that The Ramones have. I determinately wouldn't want it to be some sort of pop-rock one hit wonder. The only band that I can think of that might be recognizable and have the sense of humor to do it would be Fall Out Boy. They're not my favorite band but they might fit.

As long as it's not a band like Blink-182 or Sum 41 or Fall Out Boy, it'll probably be fine. It'd be cool to see the White Stripes in something like this.
