What Is Beyoncé's Lemonade? Let's Investigate

Beyoncé has been surprise dropping a lot of things lately: surprise single, an activewear line, some cute photos of daughter Blue Ivy . . . you know what she hasn't dropped, though? Her new album. Where is it, Bey? Where is the ferociously flawless album that we eager, anxious fans are a damn mess without? With her Formation Tour starting at the end of April, loyal members of the Beyhive have been speculating that an album release should be happening soon. Ever the benevolent musical goddess, Beyoncé was kind enough to bestow the world with a hint that something is indeed coming. Is it an album? Is it a movie? Is it both? Let's break down what we know for sure about Lemonade.

It's 2 Hours Long, and Airing on HBO

You know what's typically two hours long and airs on HBO? Movies. A whole ton of movies. Just like Michael Jackson's lengthy music video for "Thriller," and Pink Floyd's movie adaptation of The Wall, we're betting that Beyoncé is giving her new album, presumably titled Lemonade, the movie treatment during the two-hour "world premiere event" airing on HBO this Sunday at 9.

The Footage in the Trailer Is Too Disjointed to Be a Part of Just One Music Video

In the second, minute-long teaser trailer for Lemonade that the "Crazy in Love" singer posted to Instagram, we see plenty of dark, American Horror Story-esque imagery. There's an empty parking garage, shots of a storm rolling in, women wearing face paint and dancing on a bus, Bey standing in a room bathed in red light (and later swinging a bat while the world explodes in fire behind her). Basically, everything in the teaser looks amazing, but it doesn't all necessarily look like it belongs in the same video. Having a movie album would allow Beyoncé to tie in a variety of different themes and tones to match each track.

The Fans Have Suspected an Album Movie For a While Now

There have been rumblings amongst fans of a "Project Lemonade" for quite some time now, thanks to the singer's frequent hints at lemon imagery over the last few months on Instagram. It seems her work has finally come to fruition in the form of Lemonade, which many of Beyoncé's most loyal fan-run social media accounts have been saying is definitely the album movie everyone has been waiting for.

EXCLUSIVE: Album movie, alternate "Formation" video edit, and an album that will overwhelm you just listening to it! Just wait on it! 🐝
