What Was the Biggest Surprise at the 2010 Golden Globes?

Well folks, now that the Golden Globes are behind us, it's time to do what we do best — pick it all apart, analyze it, and try to figure out what it means for the rest of award season. I was happy to see that many of my predictions came true: Meryl Streep, Christoph Waltz, and Mo'Nique all took home awards as expected but there were a few surprises mixed in as well. I was sure that Gabourey Sidibe was a shoo-in, and I kinda thought RDJ's award would go to Matt Damon or Michael Stuhlbarg. Plus, I couldn't believe The Hurt Locker got absolutely no love after such a strong showing at the Critics' Choice Awards. What do you think was the biggest surprise of the night?

i'm really happy the hangover won! honestly, i didn't see nine, 500 days of summer, or julie&julia winning anyways (as much as i liked the last 2) avatar-gag! i see why he got the best director, but from what i've heard the actual story line sucked! super excited about glee (woohoo, they beat 30 rock!), but i agree...jane was robbed! i love big love (and chloe), but jane is half the reason glee is so fun!

Thing is that Glee is quite new and had just half a season. No doubt that Jane will have many chances to grab Emmys and Globes for her role for some time to come. Big Love has been on the sidelines for 3 years and has been continually impressive. To see the show and its actors finally get recognition is very gratifying, and much deserved. That said, I do wish the Globes wouldn't lump all the supporting actors into one category. It's not a level playing ground.

i wasn't really surprised by any of the winners although with all the hype that up in the air was getting at other shows - i think that everyone expected them to win more. i think that from experience, we knew that they wouldn't take home all the awards, but i'm sure lots of folks were expecting that

The Hangover winning was not only a shock but a massive disappointment. I enjoyed it as much as the next person, but it was up against some verifiably great movies (500 Days of Summer, Nine, Julie) and it got way more recognition than it deserved.

The Hangover deserved all the praise and accolades it recieved - including a Golden Globe. What people don't realize is that The Hangover wasn't just any raunchy comedy; unlike most of the stupid, dime-a-dozen films in its genre, it took a formula and made it better than ever. The Hangover was not just an absuredly funny comedy; it was a tale of friendship, redemption, and fiding oneself. That just gets overlooked because it's so silly and funny. The biggest surprises; not because I didn't see it coming but because it is absurd that it happened; were Cameron winning Best Director and Avatar winning Best Drama. I am just at a loss for words that this happened. Avatar was a wondeful movie; a visual delight that despite the fact that it really wasn't that new or revolutionary, the work that was done to achieve it will have a lasting impact on computer generation in films; but it was in no way the best film of the year nor even the best drama. Especially in a year where we saw such achievements as The Hurt Locker and Precious; not to mention the always reliably excellent Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds AND (what I think is about the closest we can get to a best picture of last year) Up in the Air; Avatar's and Cameron's wins were abominations...

I was also surprised that the Hangover actually won. I was so thrilled Glee took home an award too! I didn't really think they had a chance since they are new and were against some tough competition!
