What's the Most Unnecessary Sequel of 2007?

What's the Most Unnecessary Sequel of 2007?

Today I caught the trailer for Step Up 2 the Streets, the sequel to Step Up that will not include Channing Tatum. Also, at a recent movie screening I watched the trailer for the next National Treasure movie.

I'm seriously not convinced that either of these sequels needed to be made, and it got me thinking about all the unnecessary sequels that have spilled onto the movie scene this year.

So tell me: Which do you think is the least necessary sequel to come out this year? You don't have to have seen the movies to vote for one.

National Treasure Book of secrets is going to rule. People are sleeping on this movie which baffles me b/c the cast is SO outstanding and the the storyline involves Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth, how much more compelling do you need? Found this on a contest they are having for the film, the 'world's biggest treasure hunt'- pretty sweeeeeet -

I agree I like both of these originals and am interested in seeing the sequels!! The trailers look fun and entertaining ... I really enjoyed the first National Treasure and was totally excited to see they were making a second one!

National Treasure Book of Secrets looks very good. The John Wilkes Booth storyline is intriguing, (esp. b/c I'm an American History nerd)and the cast is stellar. Jon Voight, Ed Harris, Harvey Keitel, and Hellen Mirren. That's a serious line up right there. Its an action adventure story with outlandish plotlines, but its supposed to be like that, a fun ride. The first one is a great lazy Saturday flick to pop in, and this one looks better I think.

all of the above. well, maybe not shrek, i didn't see it, but its hard to knock a kid's movie. i'll leave that up to those who have seen it. i haven't seen any of the other choices, come to think of it. i never saw the first installment of any of them either (except shrek). i'm going to go on a limb and say they're all stupid. i don't think i'm wrong.

I also loved National Treasure and can't wait for the sequel. Shrek 3 was bad- I was so excited for that one, too. Bummer. Anyway I can't imagine ever seeing the first Step Up, so a sequel seems unnecessary to me!

That's almost as bad as Bring It On 2.

Shrek 3 was possibly the most disappointing movie I have ever seen!

I watched the YouTube link on National Treause sequel and I CAN NOT WAIT! I loved, loved the first one and I'm usually right there on sequels but some work and maybe this one will. The trick is for them to make a story line where you can forget the one before, for the most part. The Bourne movies, didn't exactly follow the books and they were still great. All the Back to the Future's, the Indiana Jones', Star Wars' (the early ones, not those he gave us later as 1-3) all the sequels for those were good so it works sometimes. I think National Treasure could be one of them.

Sequels are never as great as the originals!

I love National Treasure. The sequel will have Dennis Hopper and Helen Mirren in it, so how bad can it be? I think it makes more Americans interested in our own history, which is great.

i read somewhere they were trying to make Center Stage 2. Buzz, do you know if that's true or not? If so, that's horrible idea, because Center Stage was a great movie. But to answer the question, all of those movies were a bad idea. Die Hard 4 was only good because it had Justin Long in it, I heart him.

So sorry, hahaha, I was basing that on the fact that a) Tatum's name is so far not included on the cast list, and b) Step Up 2 the Streets is not included on Tatum's own list of movies he's in. Perhaps it should read that he is not a central character in the second movie, or, as of yet, a credited character at all.

First of all, Channing is in the sequel. He has a really awesome dance cameo. You can read more about it on his official site Channing Tatum Unwrapped. And I personally think that the sequel which stars Robert Hoffman and Briana Evigan looks like it going to be really good, if you're into those kind of movies (which I am). I'm looking forward to the hip-hop twist that's in SU2 and in my humble opinion, I think it has the potential to do well.

Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, Ocean's 13.....all of these movies are just big franchises when the first movie was just good enough.

I loved Die Hard 4... I wish Saw IV was on this list... the last one was so awful that there is no way I would ever pay to see this movie. you know what, even if it was free, I don't think I would spend that amount of time watching it.
