25 Highly Anticipated TV Series Coming to Disney's New Streaming Service

Lizzie McGuire is back! Hilary Duff is set to reprise her title role as the series centers around a 30-year-old Lizzie living in New York City.

Yep, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is coming to Disney's streaming service. In the show, the teen — who is Marvel's first Muslim character to star in her own comic — will use her Inhuman shapeshifting abilities to protect her native Jersey City.

Described as a man "struggling with multiple personalities and amoral inclinations," Marvel's Marc Spector/Moon Knight is swooping in to fight everyone's battles, including his own.

Bruce Banner isn't the only onscreen Hulk anymore! His cousin, lawyer Jennifer Walters, will also be exposed to gamma radiation and become She-Hulk. And her commitment to justice will remain as strong as her newfound abilities.

Kristen Bell will host this series that reunites former cast members of high school musicals as they recreate their original performances. Encore! drops on Nov. 12.

This unscripted short-form series coming in 2020 will feature your favorite Muppets getting into who knows what, alongside celebrity guests. Kermit the Frog posted a note about the show with blacked-out tidbits of information that would reveal too much. "I'd love to tell you more, but Joe The Legal Weasel is right behind me. Gulp," he wrote.

According to the official Star Wars website, we're going to be following a new deadly gunfighter whose story is not unlike Jango and Boba Fett's. The initial announcement said we'll "follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

The series will be set in hitherto unexplored parts of the Star Wars universe, taking place after the fall of the Empire (Episode VI: Return of the Jedi) but before the rise of the first order (Episode VII: The Force Awakens). Could some of the characters from the new trilogy possibly make appearances at some point? Fingers crossed.

As for who's starring in the series, Pedro Pascal (perhaps best known for playing Prince Oberyn in Game of Thrones) will portray the "lone Mandalorian gunfighter" teased in the premise. Also in the cast are Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. Whew, that's a lot of star power! Keep your eyes peeled for the group when the series premieres on Nov. 12, 2019.

Disney's second live-action Star Wars series will follow characters originated in 2016's standalone film, Rogue One. Alan Tudyk is set to reprise his role as droid K-2SO alongside costar Diego Luna, who is once again playing Rebel Alliance spy Cassian Andor. The series is being touted as "a rousing spy thriller that will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire."

The Americans alum Stephen Schiff is on board as showrunner and executive producer on the series, which currently has a planned 2021 release date.

Remember Willow? Ron Howard's 1988 masterpiece about a reluctant farmer (Warwick Davis) who gets roped into a journey with Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) to save a special baby and their realm from the tyrannical Queen Bavmorda? It's full of plenty of faeries, trolls, sword fighting, and people transforming into pigs, and apparently we'll all go back to the wondrous world of Willow soon since Howard is bringing a series based on the film to Disney+.

Howard originally directed the movie based on a story by George Lucas, and while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he revealed that writer Jon Kasdan has been "hounding" him about a reboot.

"I think it'd be a great way to go," Howard said. "In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it'd be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool."

Nothing is official quite yet, but Howard also mentioned that Warwick Davis would return as the titular Willow.

According to a tweet from Disney on April 11, Disney+ will be diving into the docuseries genre: "Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 is a first-of-its-kind documentary series taking audiences behind the scenes of the highly anticipated animated film." Since not too much is known about the plot of the sequel quite yet (other than that "Into the Unknown" is also the title of a song from the film), there's obviously not much to know about what exactly the docuseries will cover, either. But we can probably expect a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into Disney's filmmaking process.

Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee has described the series as real and raw, noting that it will showcase the studio's "collaborative environment in a way we have never shared before." The cast, music team, and other teams involved in the production of the film will all make appearances, since as Lee said, "nothing is off limits."

Frozen 2 will open in theaters on Nov. 22, so fingers crossed the series drops around then, too!

Although the long-rumored High School Musical 4 has yet to come to fruition, we have news of the next best thing: a High School Musical TV show. Disney is rebooting the beloved series — well, technically — for Disney+, and this time around, things are getting meta.

For starters, the show's name is High School Musical: The Musical, and it will be shot docu-style as the story plays out over the course of 10 episodes. And, if you haven't guessed it already, the students at East High who decide to put on a musical for their Winter theater production don't pick Grease or Guys and Dolls; they're putting on the High School Musical. Confused yet? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will follow the students as they "realize that as much drama happens off stage as on stage." What's more? Every episode will feature a brand-new rendition of a song from the first film, along with an original song.

The series is being executive produced by Tim Federle and Oliver Goldstick, the latter of whom worked on Freeform's Pretty Little Liars and therefore knows his way around teenage drama. Prepare to unleash your inner wildcat when the show premieres at some point later in 2019.

With Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron penning the pilot, acting as show creator, and executive producing, the series will follow Tom Hiddleston's Loki as the shape-shifter pops up throughout human history as an unlikely influencer on historical events. Hiddleston first confirmed his involvement with the series on Instagram in November 2018, writing, "Loki. More stories to tell. More mischief to make. More to come." And after the events of Avengers: Endgame, I think it's safe to say that the trickster is back. Be on the lookout for Loki's release in Spring 2021!

If you're a Marvel fan who wishes the Avengers films were actually rom-coms all about Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch) and The Vision, then you're in luck: an upcoming series dubbed WandaVision will focus on the adventures of both characters, with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles. And Jac Schaeffer, one of the writers behind Captain Marvel, has been tapped to run point on the series, writing the pilot, and executive producing.

The series will take place after Avengers: Endgame and tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in which Olsen will also star. Teyonah Parris will also make an appearance on the show as an adult Monica Rambeau, who we saw as a child in Captain Marvel, which was set in the 1990s. WandaVision is slated for a Spring 2021 release.

This adventure series — dropping in Fall 2021 — will follow Clint Barton as he trains Kate Bishop, who takes up the Hawkeye mantle in Marvel Comics. This ties into his arc in Avengers: Endgame, which shows the character teaching his daughter archery just before the Snap. Kate is also a member of the Young Avengers, a team that has been hinted to be appearing in the MCU sometime in the future.

Though Falcon and the Winter Soldier have had minimal contact with one another in the MCU, they've become a fan-favorite duo in real life thanks to Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie's chemistry. And now they're teaming up for a series together! Malcolm Spellman, a writer for Fox's Empire, has been tapped to pen the series featuring the two superheroes, with both Mackie and Stan reprising their roles.

While Mackie's Falcon will take up Captain America's shield, Stan's Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier will continue to sport his metal arm (I guess Rocket never had a chance to snag the limb). The show will also feature the return of Daniel Bruhl's character Baron Zemo, who we last saw being taken into custody at the end of Captain America: Civil War after he assassinated Black Panther's father and caused the rift between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere in Fall 2020, and it's all but guaranteed to be a wild ride.

This series will follow the life of a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl in middle school through her diary entries. There's a fun twist, though — she'll eventually grow up to become the future president of the U.S. Gina Rodriguez and Emily Gipson are executive producers on the series, along with Ilana Peña. It's expected to be available within the first year of the service's launch!

Toy Story 4 will open in theaters on June 21, but that won't be the last glimpse of the characters you'll have. When the service launches in November, we'll all be treated to some shiny new Pixar shorts starring Bo Peep and Forky. Bo Peep's short film is titled Lamp Life, while Forky will appear in a series of Pixar shorts called Forky Asks a Question. Since the character is a craft project created from trash, essentially, he has a few important questions about the world. Like, what is love? And time? Oh, and hey — what is cheese?! All 10 episodes of his series will premiere on Nov. 12.

The characters you know and love from Pixar's Monsters, Inc. are starring in a new animated series, which will pick up six months after the events of the first film. Returning cast members include Billy Crystal, Jennifer Tilly, Bob Peterson, and John Goodman, but there will also be a few new faces in the mix. (Ben Feldman, Kelly Marie Tran, Henry Winkler, Lucas Neff, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Stanton will all be playing new characters.) The show is set to premiere at some point in the second year of launch.

This docuseries will be available within the second year of the service's launch, and is based on the book of the same name. It will highlight the largely unsung group of creative, talented women who helped bring to life some of the Mouse House's most beloved animated films of all time.

In partnership with National Geographic, this series hosted by Jeff Goldblum will focus on one popular thing (ice cream, sneakers) and then pull back the layers of science and history behind it.

The popular animated series will return with 12 new episodes including characters like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala. You can expect it to premiere within the first year of launch.

The Office star Angela Kinsey will host this reality cooking competition series that challenges families from diverse backgrounds to face off against each other to use their family traditions to create Disney-themed dishes.

Coming in Summer 2021, Marvel's What If…? is an animated series that will feature episodes presenting iconic moments from the MCU through an entirely different perspective, flipping it on its head. Jeffrey Wright will voice the cosmic entity The Watcher, who shows up in moments of considerable crisis to observe and record substantial events for future generations.

Journalist Bob Woodruff teams up with his 27-year-old son Mack for this reality series, in which they'll travel the world, visiting places the average tourist never would.

Though The Simpsons is certainly not a new show, Disney+ will be its new streaming home when the service launches on Nov. 12.
